I have quite a bit already thanks. Wellbutrin, Seroquel, Trazodone, Lexapro. You should try some. They're good. As for following you around, I am only looking to learn the art of forgiveness. I don't do it for you, I do it for me.

Well let me help you out brother,

Your error is that you are going around looking for things to forgive. Just be yourself in threads(unless you can be batman...then by all means you should be batman) and if someone insults you by say calling you a dick, just forgive them and go on as if it never happened.

I encourage all you to try it. Its good for the soul.

Should I forgive them explicitly and look like a false Christian and sanctimonious ass or forgive them as dancesfortwo suggests and just let it slide without comment?

Just because your forgive someone for tossing out an insult doesn't mean they shouldn't be called out for their bad behavior. You do them a favor by letting them know they are being assholes so they can correct their behavior while not insulting them on a personal level.

If someone feels insulted because they have been forgiven, it is because they are fighting against the shame their bad behavior has brought down upon them.

So you don't have an issue with me calling out your bad behavior in this thread then.

I can identify foolish behavior on my part in this thread but not bad. The foolish behavior was not reading the original post in sufficient detail to understand the point of it.

I agree that personal insults are generally not warranted on here.

That said, I have seen several things out of you, Haywood, that make me think "what the heck is wrong with that guy!?"

I'm not trying to be insulting, but you often read as slightly unhinged. I don't know if it's a mild form of trolling or if that's just how you think/talk, but good grief, man, it's appalling!

When you say "I forgive you", he's not embarrassed at insulting you; clearly, he felt you deserved the insults. Not everyone subscribes to the Happy Fantasy Land™ tradition of "let's all be nice to one another". I do, but then I'm a Southerner, and it's part of our culture to not whip out the insults until they are well past being earned.

To some of us being told our panties are in a wad or we're participating in group masturbation or that we should be ashamed because "People who 'liked' your post should be ashamed because if you break it down, your post was complete garbage." is highly offensive and constitutes bad behavior. To some of us calling someone a fucking idiot is just foolishness not bad behavior.

I really wasn't offended by the "your post is complete garbage" post, not because it was based on a mistake (which he admitted, and that makes it even less of a problem), but because I EXPECT to be called an idiot if I make an idiotic posting. If my posts are garbage, then it is cruelty on you guys' part to leave it alone and to fail to call me out on it.

It's the entire basis of skeptical thinking; if I have errors in my thinking, I need to be made aware of them so I can do better research and/or work on my logic skills. This is true for all rational people.

But it doesn't matter if you were offended. It was an insult directed towards anyone who liked your post.

True, GirlyMan, but it was a direct attack on me and my post, and only an indirect one on anyone who "liked" (and thereby indicated agreement with) my post. So it does matter if I was offended. It also matters if others were, provided their offense was based on a rational reason to be offended.

What I was getting at is that when someone calls a person here "an idiot" for posting something idiotic, it's not an insult either; it's the kindest thing we can do, as skeptics.

Only people who come here with the (idiotic!) notion that "all opinions should be respected" get offended by those of us who tell them their bullshit is idiotic.
