How do you figure? The only possible real world relevance would be to patriarchal blessings, but even there the lineage is not conceived of as literal and physical.

Ok. Lets get this part out of the way. What part - in this entire book - is literal? Because whatever inaccurate parts or inconsistencies are brought to topic, your response is "oh thats not literal"

So lets address what is literal, so there can be no more doubleplay. What is literal in the BoM?

If you start burping up accusations and assumptions just to try to nag me into answering your questions, you're gonna have a bad time. We can all get along a lot better if you would just let me function on my terms here and deal with what I'm saying rather than than why you think I'm saying it.

I'm sorry, what was that part again? Consider

I'm not trying to square any circle. I'm not fully invested in any particular dogma about the Book of Mormon apart from that it was the result of inspiration. Its historicity is not a concern of mine.

So you support historical criticism of your religion even though you don't care at all about the historicity of the book your religion is founded on? Wait, what? So you simultaneously don't want people to be misinformed about the history of your religion on one hand, yet you don't care whether or not it's actually true? That sounds very much like apologetic claptrap.

Clap I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed his contradiction. I was so confused, I thought perhaps there was something wrong with my reading comprehension skills. You just happened to say it more eloquently than I. Bowing

Don't know and don't care. It's relevant to me on a devotional level for what I get from it, not how historical any part of it is.

Yes. I support sober and objective historical and ideological criticism of all religions.

I don't care whether or not the Book of Mormon is historical or not. You're conflating the Book of Mormon with "the history of [my] religion." Those are two entirely separate issues.

No, I'm just not committed to any particular conclusion about the Book of Mormon's historicity and am happy to support whatever the evidence suggests. My primarily field of study is the Hebrew Bible, though. That's where I've arrived at the most firm conclusions and will stake the most claims.

So you have no rational basis for your faith, correct?
