In the mother's defense, it could be that she did not know he was mental because it was never an issue before.

Utterly untrue. At best, she was in denial. There was a long history.

She was none too sane herself and probably should not have had guns.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

Well seeing as the U.S is not the best at selling guns, it is no surprise she got them.

What does "not the best at selling guns" mean? Do you know that the laws are different in each and every state?

RE: 12 Year Old Fatally Shot by Police (in Ohio)
1) Him being 12 is irrelevant. He apparently looked older anyway. Besides, if someone may be about to shoot you then you defend yourself, doesn't matter how old the other person is. What do some of you people expect? Police to ask for age verification before they shoot?

2) It's not the police's fault that they gave very little time before shooting. The kid immediately reached for a weapon. The kid was controlling the timeframe, not the cops, they had to react to his actions.

Can't even believe this debate is going on. Let's be honest here, if it had been a white 25 year old crack head with a real gun and the same scenario had played out identically, no-one would have criticised the police's actions.

Best and worst of Ferdinand .....
Best
Ferdinand: We don't really say 'theist' in Alabama. Here, you're either a Christian, or you're from Afghanistan and we fucking hate you.
Worst
Ferdinand: Everyone from British is so, like, fucking retarded.

Except it was not that situation and the cops behaved recklessly. Rookie needs to be kicked off the force. He overreacted and killed an unarmed 12 year old. Yes I am asking a lot of police officers but that is because they are given a lot of authority and benefit of the doubt. In this case it was not lived up to. Not everyone is cut out to be a cop and protecting the cops that need to turn in their badges just make the whole force look corrupt.

Not for the kid....anymore. However I wonder how many times those cops are going to replay that moment in their minds for the rest of their lives, wondering how many ways they could've handled that differently. Drinking Beverage

No. You misunderstood. I should have made that post clearer. Sorry.

I was saying ~ if only the cops knew beforehand, what they found out shortly afterwards, there would be no shooting in the first place, and kid would still be alive. The officers involved are the ones I was referring to with the '20/20 hindsight' remark.

New Video In Tamir Rice shooting
After the kid gets shot his sister tries to run to him. Cops drop her, cuff her and put her in the back of the cruiser less than 10 feet from her brother so she could get a better view of her brother writhing in pain as he lay dying. Cops then stood around shooting the shit for a couple more minutes. "So how's the wife and kids?" First medical aid to Rice was provided by an FBI Agent 4 minutes after the shooting who was in the area for an unrelated reason.

The shooter, Loehmann, resigned before he was fired from the Independence Police Department for what they called "a pattern of lack of maturity, indiscretion and not following instructions," a "dangerous loss of composure during live range training" and an "inability to manage personal stress."

Cleveland PD did not review Loehmann's personnel file from Independence although they were made available to them.

GoodWithoutGod is likely right when he said only a very small percentage of cops were on roid rages and shouldn't be cops. This guy is clearly one of them. And his veteran trainer ain't much better.
