With that being said, Texas could easily be an independent nation if they peacefully seceded. They would undoubtedly keep trading with America, there would still be food on the table. Texas is the only state that has its own power-grid, they have resources, a good infrastructure, and everything that is needed to be a successful independent nation. Even if they seceded and didn't trade with America they could still be successful nation, assuming they kept trade open with with other countries, especially Mexico, which is where a good portion of their veggies come from.

Any state (that is governed well) could easily secede if they kept trading with America, following a peaceful secession. No one is going to starve.
Their economy is not nearly diversified enough to survive without federal assistance.
