2000 year old scroll with reference to Jesus authenticated
Well, I don't consider this to be a "scroll" because it's in book form but what do you all think of this?

There are references to god being both male and female.

According to the unearthed book Jesus was not starting a new religion but restoring the 1000 year old Hebrew religion. That kinda blows the christian story into the dustbin, I'd think.

This is supposed to be an image of Jesus but I can't make out a face.

Ok that thing looks like the Necronomicon and I don't trust it but if evangelicals don't like it well it must be worth investigating. I think it's funny how much Christians don't like anything that contradicts their accepted belief system even when it could be actual historical proof of their Messiah, it's just not quite right, God can't be both genders, then we have to respect women? It's fake! Get it out of here!

RE: 2000 year old scroll with reference to Jesus authenticated
I've been looking around the internet for more confirmation of this book being authentically 2000 years old but I'm not finding much.

I don't have too much problem with Jesus being a real person, however I sure understand why many people discount his existence. But if he really did exist I'd love for archaeologists to find something that totally discredits his magical claims and son of god schtick that got going after he died. Pffffft, what a ridiculous gimmick.

Now that I look at it some more it looks a little like diarrhea.

We already have texts estimated to be from the 50s and 60s that mention Jesus and are believed to be based on earlier writings and/or stories. The age isn't likely to add much to the debate but the different theology might help dispel some of the misconceptions people have about early xianity.

RE: 2000 year old scroll with reference to Jesus authenticated
Jesus could have been a real man. I have read quite a bit re: arguments for both (his existing/not existing). Whether he was a real person or just a figurehead for that movement--people believed in his message at that time. Shit was hitting the fan with the Romans and they wanted a savior.

The idea that artifacts crop up that mention him really are not that surprising. People viewed him as their answer and revered him/the idea of him and therefore, would have saved, preserved, kept in good order, hidden away safely, etc. anything involving him. Does this prove he was a demigod? Um, no. No more so than half of the other nuts running around during this time period who also claimed to be demigods and who like Jesus, were also running around performing "magic" tricks.

Like others have mentioned, the church will decide (based on its own agenda, of course) whether or not they decide to include new found Jebusy artifacts in their belief system.
