3.8 Billion Year Old Signs of Life
Researchers have found structures in banded iron formation from northern Quebec that they interpret to be microfossils produced near seafloor hydrothermal vents. The host rocks are difficult to date accurately but are a minimum of 3.77 billion years old and possibly as old as 4.28 billion years.
