It's a clever trick by Satan. He makes the scientists believe it's that old. Ken Ham certainly has the answer.

In that general neighborhood. Hard to guess what colour the vents might have been given the composition of the oceans back then.

Yahbutt........

"God" is the ultimate deciever....

He built a universe that's only 6000 years old, but made it in such a way, that we see light energy from stars that are billions of light years away to scale of the 6000 year timeframe....

Conclusion: Ain't we fucking special?????!!!!!???????!!!!

We really ARE the center of the universe...

Dodgy

The host rocks are difficult to date accurately but are a minimum of 3.77 billion years old and possibly as old as 4.28 billion years.

I think the depths of the ocean is so amazingly mysterious (and bizarre.)

More men have walked on the Moon than have visited the deepest spot in the oceans. Thumbsup

That isn't that surprising. The Marianas Trench isn't terrily exciting, from an exploration perspective. It might have some odd life-forms but probably no stranger than many parts of the oceans. The hydrothermal vents that host so many of the weird chemosynthetic extremophiles are typically located on mid-ocean ridges and seamounts. These are relatively shallow features and while they're unikely to have a theme park any time soon they are much more throughly explored.

I think that going to the moon is less life threatening. Yes Laugh out load

Proably not. The pressures are intense but that's a relatively simple engineering problem. It isn't as if somebody is going to strap you to a few thousand tonnes of rocket fuel and light the fuse. There have been thousands of deep sea submersible dives with a much better record than the space shuttle.

Oddly enough, it's hard to get national sentiment whipped up to plant a flag in the deepest hole on the planet.

See, I like the idea of critters growing next to smokers. Put the food sources next to the cookers, I say. Smoked chicken, smoked ham, jerky, smoked tri-tip ... I could go on ...
