RE: "50 Shades of Grey"
I do have to admit, this kind of thing brings out the jealous green monster in me. These people (the likes of Meyer and her fanfiction writier) have no writing capabilities whatsoever, no original ideas, no plot, and terrible characters. Yet they are published and their books sell in the millions. They have films made about their books. They have people discussing their characters as if they were anything but the Mary Sues and ego-inserts they actually are.

And they are not the only ones. My "list-of-people-to-kill" is littered with authors like these.

There is no jealous emoticon, so instead I will cry: Weeping

I hate when people use big words completely of place in the topic matter.

RE: "50 Shades of Grey"
I was at a friend's house and she had a copy of the book sitting on her kitchen table. It was a birthday gift from her husband, but he wasn't home so I picked it up and read it anyway (lol). I only read 3 or 4 pages, which may not have been completely fair to the entire book, but even so, I wasn't impressed. The problem is that it's written for women, so the actual "sex" is short-lived, while the majority of the erotica comes from the buildup.

I enjoy the excitement of anticipation as much as any woman, but I couldn't bring myself to be impressed by the way things play out in the story. I've written libraries of erotic/pornographic stories for some of my girl-friends, and the majority of it has involved more extreme kinds of domination - not limited to the child's-play of handcuffs and ropes. Wink (Certainly the sort that could be posted here)

That's why I was a bit angry when I heard that a new series of erotic/domination novels was out. But then I read it and I loled.

From what I've seen the problem is much bigger than that.

Also, not sure what you're implying, but if you think that women prefer buildup to actual sex, you're doing it wrong.

What I mean is that most women (but by no means all) get off on the emotional aspect of sexuality, whereas a guy can see a pair of boobs, do his thing for 2 minutes, then fall asleep.

Like they say, "Women are like ovens. Men are like microwaves."

That's why women have erotic novels, where the Fabio-looking character sweeps them off their feet and takes them out to the meadow where he massages their feet for an hour before sensually feeding them strawberries and ultimately making passionate love to them.

Men, on the other hand (pardon the pun), go to their favorite porn site and watch a girl shaking her ass around for 5 minutes while they rub one out.

A generalization would be a fallacious move on my part - there are millions of exceptions to every rule - but I didn't intend to write a thesis on the dynamics of male/female sexuality on an online forum. I figured colloquialisms would suffice. Smile

lol, ok. Sorry if I came off confrontational in that post. I think I misunderstood your initial point. While it is a generalisation, I suppose it is a fair one. I won't argue that.
