I really really hate people sometimes.

But I have to really really love these people in order to contribute to anything that makes them rise above religiosity.

Consider the source. The Washington Examiner is roughly the equivalent of the British Daily Mail.

doesn't seem entirely reliable. This weather question, 31 say its god and 17 say its never. There is also this "I don't know/prefer not to say" which is at 29. amateur polls.

That poll supports many others. Any poll I have ever seen indicates that US residents believe in God at a far higher rate than nearly every other 1st world democratic nation.

The fact is that the majority of US residents are believers. US Presidents regularly invoke god and divine intervention. The have to, in order to get elected and after getting elected they must pander to believers. Just look at the wacko senators and congressmen and the things they say. Just imagine what they "really" think. It's one of the reasons why we fear you.

Only around a third of those people are actually fundamentalists though (which is still too high for my liking).

It's too high for the rest of the rational world too.

Well they never asked me to take any damn polls...
In any case, "under god" and "in god we trust" is devoid of any religious meaning despite what the others say. Ceremonial deism they call it. I prefer our other motto, E pluribus unum Out of many one.

We know that not all of you are crazy. Certainly not that vast majority of those here. But the majority of US residents certainly seem to be. When a US President tells the world that he had a personal conversation with God, who told him to go to war, it does tend to frighten the rest of us out here. The OP just posted an interesting poll and seems concerned about what the futures hold for the USofA. My take on this is that the rest of the world (1st world democracies) are pretty damn concerned about what it holds for us too.

What about us crazy Americans who don't happen to have invisible telepathic superfriends?
