The summary language makes no distinction between "existing gun owners" and existing owners of the newly-banned, listed weapons.

This is all about the people in government knowing full well that they have become corrupt and at some point the people might decide to take the country back by force. The politicians are not scared of drunk drivers, because they typically don't kill the extremely wealthy. They kill the little people that pay for everything. Guns however might lead to an armed revolt, so we can let your average joe have a gun any longer. The government is getting as oportunistic as parasites.

Sorry, but that is a bullshit argument. Average Joe doesn't need a gun at all to revolt. Remember the French revolution? The French people started that with their bare hands. And killed the majority of the upper classes. You don't need guns – for starters – for a revolution to be effective.

Oh, you must be referring to the one that started in 1756. Yes I am familiar with it. Funny how I don't see anything about the use of spy sattelites combined with that of war ships that have guns that can fire for hundreds of miles and rockets that can travel half way around the planet and kill people without ever presenting a target to get fired at. Don't get me wrong, guns would not make a revolt easy by any stretch of the imagination. It would increase the odds though. Not that I have any plans of starting one. Back in good old 1756 governments did not have as big of an advantage as they do now. Disarm the general population and the government can do literally anything it decides to do with the technology of today. A drone is not going to decide that the government is corrupt and change sides.

If by '1756' you really mean 1789 we're on the same page again as far as historic facts are concerned. Pitchforks, axes, knives, and clubs proved excellent and very adequate revolution starters.

Overrun a couple of army bases, raid their arsenals, and you can take over the country.

Clearly not.. Instead of alcohol which results in deaths daily, why not swap it out with Marijuana?

The use of Marijuana has never resulted in a single death that I am aware of, perhaps drug dealers that killed people, but if it was legal we wouldn't have that problem.

I bet we would see a immense decrease in deaths due to guns if it was legalized.

It's just a random selective stat.. since Rifles =/= all possible guns and Knives, Hammers, club s=/= all blunt instruments.

This thread is lacking in discussion on combating drunk driving.
