Only explanation that comes to mind is that the introspection required to answer that reveals shit far more frightening than any weapon could ever be. Same reason mental health issues scare the shit outta us. There but for the grace of God go I.

I am going to post something I put on facebook.

"His motivation was racism and bigotry his method was easily accessible firearms to look at half the problem is pointless. Both need to be changed if we as a people are ever going to move forward. Luckily Racism is on the decline, the moderate position is now not pro-racism this was not really the case even as little as 30 years ago. What remains, in most places anyway there are outliers which SC is definitely part of, is the extremists. Those will probably never really go away. What we can do however is limit their potential to inflict violence on the rest of us. So that brings in the discussion of the second half of this tragedy the Method he used. The easiest method for such an attack in the US is to go buy a big fuck off gun with a lot of bullets. It is very effective as we have seen over and over and over again. Maybe just maybe had this racist piece of human trash not had an easily available easy to operate weapon of mass death this would not have happened."

Sometimes in the treatment of a deep seated disease you must first treat the symptoms so you can prevent them from killing the host, before you can treat the root problem. I could lay out a plan to fix America's mental health system (which the killer in this case is not part of, he was a racist piece of shit but he was sane) but at best that would be a 20 year + plan and in all reality would be 50 years or more before all the fruits of it were reaped. In that time can we as a people afford to have monthly or more mass shootings? We have tried doing nothing and it has failed.

Since most of the people who I am friends with on Facebook are in SC - my intent with my post was to reach them regarding racism.

Thanks for moving the focus on there and for the smart-assed comment.

Facebook is a different part of my world from here. Most of my friends that are on both realize that.

You are one person who I thought would respect that. Guess I was mistaken.

See here they are the bruises some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF

I think in The Peoples Republic of Maryland the difference is that the pistol grip makes it much easier to modify the weapon so it can be concealed. Long guns are perfectly legal in Maryland and don't need to be registered. Long guns which can easily be modified into something different aren't.

Yabut, those two are the same rifle (Ruger Mini-14) - they just have different stocks.

If it turns out to be correct that we can't blame SSRIs on this as we are wont to do, then it's even fucking scarier.

No, it doesn't. Aiming and trigger control make shots more accurate. The shots are not being guided.

Fine. Compared to tradition iron sights, holographic sights allow a quicker and easier target acquisition.

What did you take offense to? Rev's post didn't read inflammatory to me.

Pretty sure the stocks and magazine capacities are what the People's Republic of Maryland are regulating not the caliber. Ain't you doing the same in Massachewie?

or, you could seek to support gun control.

First, let's remember that gun control is not gun banning. Even the left doesn't typically want gun banning. So guns would still be around in almost any gun control scenario.

Second, your argument amounts to "we could attack the real problem or we could just support gun control". So let's say we did that. The next thing you would see is an increase in bombings, stabbings, crude chemical weapons, or other violent and deadly methods because you wouldn't have taken away the real problem.

Third, some of what you mentioned are probably contributing factors. Just because it's a daunting task to address them won't make gun control any more effective in addressing the problem.

@DonaldTrump, Patriotism is not honoring your flag no matter what your country/leader does. It's doing whatever it takes to make your country the best it can be as long as its not violent.

Not exactly. In the Democratic Socialist Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the law is essentially the now-lapsed federal "Assault Weapons Ban" continued with a few flourishes added.

So, a pistol grip is OK, but with no more than one of the following: large capacity magazine, flash suppressor, threaded barrel to accommodate a flash suppressor, bayonet lug, collapsible stock, or grenade launcher.
