A Manual for Creating Atheist (book)
A new book has just been published, it has a bad title but looks like it could be a game changer.

"The core of the book is not about changing peoples beliefs.
It's about changing the way people form beliefs."

"God is a conclusion. It's a conclusion that one has as the result of an unreliable epistemology, as an unreliable way to come to knowledge to form beliefs on what's real and what's make-believe land."

The book's author Peter Boghossian has a great video where he outlines the book's content. Google "Imagine No Religion 3: Peter Boghossian" or click the link below

RE: A Manual for Creating Atheist (book)
Hmm... Consider not that I give a shit about converting anyone... but... this actually looks pretty interesting.

Quote:For thousands of years, the faithful have honed proselytizing strategies and talked people into believing the truth of one holy book or another. Indeed, the faithful often view converting others as an obligation of their faith--and are trained from an early age to spread their unique brand of religion. The result is a world broken in large part by unquestioned faith. As an urgently needed counter to this tried-and-true tradition of religious evangelism, A Manual for Creating Atheists offers the first-ever guide not for talking people into faith--but for talking them out of it. Peter Boghossian draws on the tools he has developed and used for more than twenty years as a philosopher and educator to teach how to engage the faithful in conversations that will help them value reason and rationality, cast doubt on their religious beliefs, mistrust their faith, abandon superstition and irrationality, and ultimately embrace reason.

RE: A Manual for Creating Atheist (book)
The original title of the book was Street Epistemology but I think the publisher the sensationalist title of "A Manual for Creating Atheist"

"The interventions used in street epistemology do not target conclusions that are drawn from faith propositions.
For example, Jesus being born of a virgin.
Nor do they target morality or moral issues. For example, the Catholic prohibition on birth control.
Nor do they target the community, temples, mosques, synagogs.
Instead, street epistemology targets how people think they know what they claim to know."

I like the statement:

The Faiths can not all be correct.
but they can, all be all wrong

Theism is to believe what other people claim, Atheism is to ask "why should I".
