A boy named Lucy
I was asked to make a separate thread about this subject from my introduction. I introduced myself as an atheistic satanist. Although that seems like an oxymoron it really isn't. Modern satanists don't believe in any deity. We don't believe in God or Satan. We use Satan as a symbol of rebellion against conventional standards. We embrace our carnal nature. We embrace who we really are as humans.

When Anton LaVay wrote the satanic bible he used inspiration for the book from Ayn Rand, Friedrich Nietzsche and Ragnar Redbeard. Their influence shows in the nine satanic statements, the eleven satanic rules of earth and the nine satanic sins. We use these as basic guidelines for freeing us from societies morals and to lead happy, successful lives.

The nine satanic statements

Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!

Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!

Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!

Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!

Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!

Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!

Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!

Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!

Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years! (Business isn't booming I'll discuss why in a bit)

11 satanic rules of earth

Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.

Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.

When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.

If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.

Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.

Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.

Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained. (Something I don't follow and I'll tell you why in a bit)

Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.

Do not harm little children.

Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.

When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

Nine satanic sins

Stupidity
The top of the list for Satanic Sins. The Cardinal Sin of Satanism. It’s too bad that stupidity isn’t painful. Ignorance is one thing, but our society thrives increasingly on stupidity. It depends on people going along with whatever they are told. The media promotes a cultivated stupidity as a posture that is not only acceptable but laudable. Satanists must learn to see through the tricks and cannot afford to be stupid.

Pretentiousness
Empty posturing can be most irritating and isn’t applying the cardinal rules of Lesser Magic. On equal footing with stupidity for what keeps the money in circulation these days. Everyone’s made to feel like a big shot, whether they can come up with the goods or not.

Solipsism
Can be very dangerous for Satanists. Projecting your reactions, responses and sensibilities onto someone who is probably far less attuned than you are. It is the mistake of expecting people to give you the same consideration, courtesy and respect that you naturally give them. They won’t. Instead, Satanists must strive to apply the dictum of “Do unto others as they do unto you.” It’s work for most of us and requires constant vigilance lest you slip into a comfortable illusion of everyone being like you. As has been said, certain utopias would be ideal in a nation of philosophers, but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, from a Machiavellian standpoint) we are far from that point.

Self-deceit
It’s in the “Nine Satanic Statements” but deserves to be repeated here. Another cardinal sin. We must not pay homage to any of the sacred cows presented to us, including the roles we are expected to play ourselves. The only time self-deceit should be entered into is when it’s fun, and with awareness. But then, it’s not self-deceit!

Herd Conformity
That’s obvious from a Satanic stance. It’s all right to conform to a person’s wishes, if it ultimately benefits you. But only fools follow along with the herd, letting an impersonal entity dictate to you. The key is to choose a master wisely instead of being enslaved by the whims of the many.

Lack of Perspective
Again, this one can lead to a lot of pain for a Satanist. You must never lose sight of who and what you are, and what a threat you can be, by your very existence. We are making history right now, every day. Always keep the wider historical and social picture in mind. That is an important key to both Lesser and Greater Magic. See the patterns and fit things together as you want the pieces to fall into place. Do not be swayed by herd constraints—know that you are working on another level entirely from the rest of the world.

Forgetfulness of Past Orthodoxies
Be aware that this is one of the keys to brainwashing people into accepting something new and different, when in reality it’s something that was once widely accepted but is now presented in a new package. We are expected to rave about the genius of the creator and forget the original. This makes for a disposable society.

Counterproductive Pride
That first word is important. Pride is great up to the point you begin to throw out the baby with the bathwater. The rule of Satanism is: if it works for you, great. When it stops working for you, when you’ve painted yourself into a corner and the only way out is to say, I’m sorry, I made a mistake, I wish we could compromise somehow, then do it.

Lack of Aesthetics

This is the physical application of the Balance Factor. Aesthetics is important in Lesser Magic and should be cultivated. It is obvious that no one can collect any money off classical standards of beauty and form most of the time so they are discouraged in a consumer society, but an eye for beauty, for balance, is an essential Satanic tool and must be applied for greatest magical effectiveness. It’s not what’s supposed to be pleasing—it’s what is. Aesthetics is a personal thing, reflective of one’s own nature, but there are universally pleasing and harmonious configurations that should not be denied. (Woo woo that I also don't follow).

Now you see there are a couple of things I agree with and some that I don't. One of the ones is the use of magick l. Now do they believe magick "works"? Yes but only as a placebo and using the law of attraction and visualization. Sort of like group therapy. I have no need for ceremonial magick.

Another thing thing is hierarchy. This branch of satanism (laveyan satanism) has an authoritarian fetish and is quite eliteist. Warlocks , magistrates, high priests blah blah blah. Also they took the objectivist philosophy and applied it to politics as well. Something that did not appeal to my anarchist sympathies. In fact due to the "work in the shadows" philosophy the CoS is in great decline. The satanists tha were there have broke off to form their own church's. One in particular is the Satanic temple.

The satanic temple is a politically active organization used to combat social injustices, lobby the govt to protect the separation of church and state. Its probably the most visibly active satanic church today. Even though we are a complete separate entity from the CoS we have a lot of respect for LaVey and use the philosophy of LaVey satanism on a personal level. We follow the TST tenents.

One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason.

The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo your own.

Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.

People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and resolve any harm that may have been caused.

Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

This is something that resonated with me the most as a satanist.

Now there are theistic satanists. Most modern satanists view it as reverse Christianity, even though they tend to have varying beliefs about Satan and other pagan gods. The temple of set and the joy of satan(crazy people) are the most known examples.

Also this is what the brought the satanic temple a lot of press. When they tried to put the ten commandments in front of the courthouse in Detroit, the TST wanted to put a statue of baphomet next to it. The ten commandments statue was a violation of church and state so we wanted to test the local govt to see if they would allow this for all religions.

I've seen a few variations of Satanism. Is yours the one that exist solely in defiance of Christianity? Mainly as a piss take and to spit in the face of those devout wankers, or is your Satanism the general worship of Satan as an existing deity? I have seen many, many, conflicting instances of Satanism and so I am quite confused as to what it is.

Yes TST was formed as a politically active organization against religious intolerance and to occasionally make Christians go nuts. However if you ask a lot of TST members you will find that they follow some form of LaVey satanism. They are however completely separate entities.
