RE: A few lyrics from a song you may like.
Woke up this morning with this song rambling through my head...

And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky.

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

RE: A few lyrics from a song you may like.
I wish that for just one time, you could stand inside my shoes.
And just for that one moment I could be you.
Yes I wish that for just one time, you could stand inside my shoes.
You'd know what a drag it is to see you.

Bob Dylan - Positively 4th Street

It doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.

Neil Young - Old Man

The Cure, Jimi, and..no idea whatsoever, lol

That last one is Television, lyrics to the title track, "Marquee Moon". If you've never heard that album, run, don't walk, to your nearest Internet outlet and order that album. As a guitarist yourself, you will appreciate the interplay between twin guitarists Richard Lloyd and Tom Verlaine -- they interweave their playing in a manner similar to Bach, with a snotty punk attitude.

The fact that the lyrics are poetry is just gravy.

I'm thinking you are a Gibson guy, like me. When I hear in my mind's ear myself playing a solo, it's a Gibson tone -- in my case, an SG through some smokin' 6L6s pushed by a juicebox. These guys come from an entirely different angle -- Strats and Jaguars through cranked Deluxe Reverbs, on the edge of breakup. It's all good, though -- they make it work. It ain't heavy metal, but it sure as hell is rock and roll.

From that album, the opening track. Listen to how the guitars work together, and don't argue. And then, at 1:49 into, starts one of my favorite guitar solos ever -- not technical at all, just some schlub playing at the edge of his ability, and sounding at a time or two like he's about to fall off the cliff ... but he pulls out and carries on. A fighter-pilot like yourself should be able to appreciate that much. It's a perfect example of a guitar solo taking a song to another level:

Ain't no angel gonna greet me,
It's just you and I, my friend.
And my clothes don't fit me no more,
I walked a thousand miles
Just to slip this skin.

Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
And I'm countin' on you
To carry me through

He shakes my ashes,
Greases my griddle,
Churns my butter,
And he strokes my fiddle, aw
My man, is such a handy man

This is one of my favorite old songs...

But I had no idea that Dobie Gray was black! *bwhahahaha* Laugh out load

Awesome. I'm singing along right now, full volume, doubtless to the dismay of my neighbors. (It's 11:45 PM)

RE: A few lyrics from a song you may like.
Thread got me listening to "Words", from Missing Persons -- first time in a couple of decades I've listened to the song.

Shit, Terry Bozzio is a killer drummer.
