A Pearl fibreglass version of a Brasilian timbau. It is not authentic but can be set up with a set of congas. The Brasilian timbaus are too fragile.

See that metal hook? That can be set onto a conga stand. Very useful indeed. But the drum is bloody heavy!

Actually you can lay it on your lap and hit the beads, play it with brushes...

It's basically a shaker, but one's imagination can run wild.

I used to play the streets when I was younger. Walking down the road playing fences, posts, tin cans, anything.

Music is everywhere. Smile

Banjo, as a fellow musician who started with drums and ended up as an egotistical guitarist, I love this thread. I miss the drumming days!! Big Grin

Glad you like it mate. A student emailed me a Dropbox frame drum solo he'd been learning yesterday and I'd love to link it so you could hear the fruits of my labor. But do not know how. He played a 20" frame drum. I will post one soon. I emailed it to my mate who is a Brasilian drum company owner and he loved it. Very proud of my student! He originally rang for a djembe teacher but got me instead. Now he plays Afro Cuban, Brasilian, Middle Eastern, African percussion etc and even drum kit!

He said to me one day "I only expected djembe lessons. Now I play all this!" Big Grin

He currently works in two bands who each adore him. Smile
So proud!

Here is yet another Brasilian drum called a repique de mao. It can be played with two hands on the head or like a rebolo with one hand playing the head while the other plays the shell. But really there are no rules. In Cuban music there are loads of rules. The Brasilians don't care as much. If it works and is samba, it's samba!

20" frame drum used by my student to play his solo. This is in the collective photo indoors of some instruments I practiced one day, but I reckon it deserves it's own shots. Thumbsup
