A sad, sad day for Rio
This is a horrible way to start my day. Still in shock. I've actually spoken to this guy and been to this place. I have pictures of me on these very steps. It is somewhat appropriate that he should have died there, but not like this. Horrible (and also reminded me how badly I miss Rio).

I'm sorry to hear that. I've never seen those steps before - the pic in your link didn't do them justice so I Googled a bunch of images. Really cool, the Escaderia, and sad that the artist is gone.

RE: A sad, sad day for Rio
It is an amazing place. Looks completely ordinary from the top, but when you get to the bottom and look up and see all those colours. There was even a tile from Bulgaria (right under one from Cabo Verde, which said "Cabo Verde - land of love and peace" - I took it as a sign that I really have to go there, at last. Finding love and peace in Cabo Verde would be... well, peacefully lovelyWink)

He was a man who had his issues (who doesn't), but I can only hope he didn't suffer too much, neither mentally/emotionally nor physically Sad

Oh wow...That is so cool that you've been there and can totally understand your shock.

Wind's in the east, a mist coming in
Like something is brewing and about to begin
Can't put my finger on what lies in store
but I feel what's to happen has happened before...

Oh no... I've seen these steps before - they're quite famous and just incredible. How sad he won't be able to continue his life's work.
He must have been an interesting person to speak with Vera - you're lucky to have met such a creative man. It is a sad day for Rio. Undecided

Yeah, that was the first thing I saw in my FB newsfeed. And the picture of all those people, sitting there, mourning Sadcryface

He was a character. He had an obsession with pregnant women, most of his paintings were of pregnant women. He also had this, both in Portuguese and in English, and since I was working in a favela, I found it to be so true...

An incredible artist! The community will greatly suffer his loss.

The article said he'd received threats. FUCK! Angry Don't people know? An artist is a mirror!!

I kind of think he decided to kill himself at the site of his life's work. Maybe because the alternative is even worse... But that's Rio, as much as I love it, there's a lot of suffering and serous problems there. My poor dears Sadcryface

Yes... I thought this too... probably because I understand it more. Shy

Now you got me thinking about that... if I ever decide to do that, I'll have to kill myself amidst a bunch of vampire porn and YA books.
I think I wanna die RIGHT NOW. Weeping

OR... I can build a pyre and burn myself on it. Thus killing two birds with one stone...
