Add your awesome Bible verse (or Quran or whatever)
So yeah Smile There's a detrimental thread here , started by PeacefulSkeptic. I thought: you know, we keep getting told that the Bible is great literature. So here's the place for *awesome* verses that you like. I'm gonna kick off with:

Isaiah 9:2:
Quote:The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light, and they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

For the reason I like it: Handel's Messiah. That man was a genius.

I had the pleasure of singing in The Messiah at the Albert Hall.

Whatever one's thoughts about the meaning of the lyrics, it's hard to deny the beauty of the piece.

I like this one:

Psalm 23:4...

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

... although "thou", as I read it, refers to friends and lovers... flesh and bone.

Hard? Impossible! I've been listening to more clips on youtube. What a win! And to think when I was a squirt I used to grumble about getting dragged along to things like that with my parents. If I ever have kids they will be dragged! No question.

Job 38 - Who is this that obscures my plans
with words without knowledge?
Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.

Cause how does god question but with natural mystery, and how does man answer but with science. That's what I'm talking about. Wink

I'm tossing whole stories into the melting pot.

God's destroying the entire world but for Noah and his family. Noah, the entirely blameless man, contrasted with all those evil babies and toddlers who deserved extinction. There's a horror story that makes Stephen King look like an amateur.

Then, there's abracadabra Jesus...water into not just wine but the best vintage. Multiplying somebody's lunchbox in order to feed thousands...WITH baskets full of leftovers collected. "Wake up and come on out here, Lazarus."

Those are stories it's difficult to top for sheer appeal.

Matthew 5:44
But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you

Contradiction for the win. Dodgy

This is mine:
Love is patient and is kind; love doesn't envy. Love doesn't brag, is not proud,
5 doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil;
6 doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

"Jesus wept." - John 11:35

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.
