Addiction
How would a theist explain addiction?

Why would our bodies have this weakness? Why are we only addicted to harmful things and not apples?

Was this an error on gods part? Did he not know Heroin would be produced in the future?

Surely a creator would ensure we are addicted to healthy stuff and not be able to have a dependency on things that kill us.

Any thoughts?

RE: Addiction
Depends on theist. Though I guess free will would be quite popular explanation, along with propensity for sin.

The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

Mikhail Bakunin.

Re: Addiction
I've heard from various theists that, "God is testing you."

I've also heard that addiction is purely the work of the devil; he's steering souls without enough faith in god down the wrong path.

Blah blah free will blah blah temptation blah blah the fall after Original Sin.

This also explains every instance of disease and natural disasters! It's basically the theist version of The Theory of Everything.

RE: Addiction
If addiction is so bad -- why do the xtians compulsively go to church EVERY Sunday???????

Tell them that if they can't stop going -- they're addicted......

RE: Addiction
It's all because Eve at the apple!! God didn't WANT there to be addiction...

The best part is when they try to cover EVERYONE with some form of addiction by labeling it a "sin"

Sex = Sin,
Drugs = Sin
Porn = Sin
Be gay = Sin

Without convincing people that they have an addiction to something bad, or they are being tempted by the devil, they wouldn't have "Evidence" for their god, or the need of being saved by said god, would they?

Not only can they explain addiction, it's a requirement for their sales pitch.

Remember, just because you want something to be true, doesn't make it true. Yes, even if you have faith.

RE: Addiction
Hmm but we haven't got the free will to grab hot/freezing/sharp stuff etc... Our body automatically pulls away. Our body has failsafes built in to avoid all sorts of harm.

Yet addiction still remains.

Seems more like another defect in our bodies rather than a sign of perfect creation.

This apple Thing... Did the apple release a chemical Into the air once it was bitten into? This chemical then poisoned the air with sin?

Or did god then HAVE TO cast a spell or something to create sin?

Either way you look at it.. The apple was either loaded by god or he cast the spell afterwards.. And either way he could have avoided the fall of man but he chose to be an active participant instead.

RE: Addiction
Because God created sin and created humanity with a corrupted nature. If He didn't, then we would be perfect, which is something only God can be.

(this theist's explanation anyway)

Please cite the verse where we are a perfect creation.
