Alexander Aan, Indonesian atheist...

People from countries that use these kind of repressions and "freedoms" should really be careful with their atheism... Horrible, horrible...

Angry

Quote: MUARO SIJUNJUNG, Indonesia — An Indonesian man arrested after writing
"God doesn't exist" on his Facebook page was jailed for 30 months
Thursday for sharing explicit material about the Prophet Mohammed
online.
Alexander Aan, 30, was found guilty of "deliberately
spreading information inciting religious hatred and animosity",
presiding judge Eka Prasetya Budi Dharma told the Muaro Sijunjung
district court in western Sumatra.
Aan started an atheist group on
Facebook on which he shared comic strips of the prophet having sex with
his servant, Dharma said.
He also uploaded three articles on his account, including one describing the prophet being attracted to his daughter-in-law.
"Under
the Electronic Information and Transactions law, we sentence him to
prison for a length of two years and six months," Dharma said.
"What he did has caused anxiety to the community and tarnished Islam."
Aan
was beaten by an angry mob and arrested by police in his hometown of
Pulau Punjung in western Sumatra in January after posting the material
online and declaring himself an atheist.
The court had earlier
indicted Aan with two other charges -- persuading others to embrace
atheism and blasphemy -- and prosecutors had sought a
three-and-a-half-year jail term for him.
But the court convicted him of the most serious charge and dropped the other two.
Aan's
arrest sparked outrage among Indonesians and international activists,
who showed their support on his Facebook group and circulated petitions
to have his charges dropped.
Indonesia, the world's largest
Muslim-majority nation, guarantees freedom of religion in its
constitution and the International Covenant on Civil and Political
Rights, but only recognises six faiths: Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism,
Catholicism, Protestantism and Confucianism.
Its courts have in
recent years given light sentences to perpetrators of violent attacks on
Christians and Islamic minority Ahmadis, some of which have been fatal.

Shit. Brave guy. Got beaten by a mob... Lucky to be alive I imagine. Love the traversty of a secular law court sentencing a man for bringing a religion into disrepute. He incited religious hatred huh? I guess that's true. A man incited a mob to attack him, so we'll sentence the man and the mob goes free... Weeping

That's just awful.

I wonder if he had any idea of the implications he would bestow upon himself Consider I understand he must have felt compelled to reveal his stance as an atheist but it's definitely not worth losing your freedom over it.

A tragedy to be sure! Sad

RE: Alexander Aan, Indonesian atheist...
I think it is worth loosing your freedom, if you plan on achieving something in the long run. You see, there has to be a start sometime somewhere and someone need to bite the first bullet. Now, his action can start all sorts of trouble for the government, imagine if this shit start to get really big and all the atheists start coming out demanding their rights and releasing Aan from prison. Where would the cops put 20% of the country? In what jails? The real problem is that this scenario probably will not happen, but there is always hope and a lot of big revolutions have started with the first martyr.

I hope that this act of his will not just go in vain.

FREE AAN!!

So, in Indonesia, it's ok to disrespect any 5 of the 6 official religions.

Doesn't matter which 5. Yeah, that makes sense. Laughat

How about an open letter campaign trashing Indonesia's fake 'justice' in this 'Aan' case? Let's see how sensitive they are to getting their public image trashed. Let's make them rue the day.

Here is an update for you guys.
