Should told them "you score that as 'smarter than you'", put on some sunglasses and walked away. ![]() I get that managers want to know the personality of their employees, I'm a manager myself. My issue is that when I read some of the tests, I can kinda get the idea of what answers they're looking for and why, I just think they're stupid. The way my mind works is far from normal and if I answer the questions, I'd either be lying or simply cheating. If that's what an employer is looking for in an employee, they're not the company for me. I've taken a few that have a larger range to the answers that are less annoying. Those usually have "rate how much you agree with this statement from 1-5" type questions. Those can still be very troublesome, though as I often strongly disagree with something based on the phrasing of the question. I know that if I answer honestly, they won't understand why (no room for explanations) and probably not hire me. I've had employers that I was a manager for try to force those types of tests on my applicants. They all ended up in the trash or just as an unused sheet on their app. Call me old fashioned, but I still think the best way to get to know an applicant is by, you know, actually talking to them and asking questions. At the most, those types of tests should be used for how to deal with an employee, not whether to hire said employee. I'm quite introverted when it comes to dealing with crowds and humanity in general, I'd rather stay home and read a book than go the bar. According to these types of tests, I'd be a terrible salesman. I was in sales for over 10 years and was always near the top of the sales charts. I'm an excellent salesman, despite what the idiotic tests say. Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up. "Let me give you some advice, bastard: never forget what you are. I walked out on an application/interview process because they handed me a test that was filled with questions like this. Two choices, neither of which even remotely reflects my feelings or ideas. If an employer is not smart enough to recognize false choice fallacies and is using those false choices to determine who they will employ, I don't want to work for them anyway. IQ tests are horrible indicators of whether an employee will be a good employee. Obviously, the people who thought otherwise have a low IQ. ![]() Seriously, though. As any of the geniuses here can tell you, IQ doesn't mean shit for most jobs. A person with a high IQ may learn the job faster, but the end performance is going to rely a hell of a lot more on work ethic, attitude, laziness, etc. I have one friend that makes me look like a drooling idiot when we start discussing intellectual topics, but I wouldn't hire the guy to work a lemonade stand. He's lazy, entitled, pretentious, and kinda a dick. He is fond of his "Genius by nature, slacker by choice" shirt... ![]() Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up. Because, especially in corporate environments, hiring managers are too often the idiots that failed upward. They're sycophantic and of low enough intelligence to be easily controlled. They do exactly as their told and don't ask questions or rock the boat. So when someone above them decides that these types of tests will weed out unqualified employees, the lower level managers simply go along with the program, never thinking twice about the actual efficacy of the program. This, again, is why I have walked out of interviews like that. If a company's culture is one of conformity and obedience, they aren't going to be able to keep hold of innovative thinkers. I refuse to work with people who not only don't think outside the box, but refuse to acknowledge that there IS an outside of the box. To these companies, everything must be neatly quantified and any deviation from the norm is seen as bad. ![]() Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up. This, along with psychological training, helped me to identify and understand others' thought processes and motivations. Sales is all about getting into your customer's head and figuring out what they want or how to convince them they want something. Also, as your current sales lady shows, being introverted can be a boon in that introverts are less likely to care about what others think and be less afraid of rejection. I know I'm smart, funny, and all around awesome. You telling me you don't want to buy something from me won't effect that in the least. Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You are loyal to your values and the people who are important to you. You hope you can live in a world which could exactly match your own value. You are very curious about the world. You can always find more possibilities and drive yourself and other people to make these ideas come true. You try to understand other people and help them to maximize their potential. When there is nothing threatening your own value, you are quite flexible and good at accepting other people. Sounds like me. I do wish there were more answers to pick from though. And my mental age is 39. OVER WORRIED!! Over worried my ass! I'm not that over worried! I think I'm just too indifferent since most of your stupid questions I picked "neither" for! And why does being mentally older make me over worried?! ![]() |
