Okay, what the hell is it with people's white hot fear of socialism? Can anybody prove that a country like Norway or Sweden has become the literal equivalent of Orwell's 1984? Does the state of thse countries totally boicott all forms of capitalism? Are people stuffed in jail for even daring to mention that somebody who *isn't* caucasian has made a mistake?

As my signature already says; don't answer that. A rhetorical question. Because, no, it doesn't happen.

And that time I busted my fucking head open in 7'th grade? Quite happy my parents didn't have to go to their fucking job to ask for permission to get my head stitched for free.

It's decades of American propaganda. To their propagandists Russians = communists = socialists = anarchist = AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! They are incapable of admitting that ideas should be evaluated on their merits, to them an idea is inextricably linked with a political position. So because there've been decades of effort and fear-mongering put into the idea that the communists/socialists are out to cause a revolution and sweep away our wonderful capitalist lifestyle, socialism is a dirty word. Even Bernie Sanders during the Democratic nomination business was regarded as crazy for openly stating that he was a socialist.

The antifa crowd feed the paranoia because they act violently. It's as if there was say a violent atheist movement, in the same way that there are strong, violent Christian movements. "Atheist" is a dirty word in America and their religious propagandists tell them that atheists are out to overthrow the government, to strip people of their religious rights etc. If there was equally a violent movement along with that... that would only feed the paranoia, regardless that there are ideas espoused by that movement that deserve to be considered.

See? This is how it's done. Legally removing the statue. In this case, right-wing extremists who support Confederate ideas can scream and squwak all they want; the state decided to remove it, and it doesn't get any more final than that. It's over, they lose, and the only people they can blame are the people they themselves voted in.

It wasn't that goddamn hard to get rid of these objects legally in the end was it now, huh?

IIRC the one in Charlottesville was also scheduled for legal removal...

The one that was ripped own illegally was this one:

And yeah, I know that state has passed a law that makes it hard to remove these objects. They used to say pot would stay illegal in the whole country, and that homosexuals could never get married. Now look at it. Laws change.

Tearing down of statues...

Hmmmm....?

They tore down the statue of Zeus, created by Phidius.

I wish we still had it. Legend says it is where the image for the face of Christ originated.

Because it no longer exists, nobody can really say.

50 feet tall. Golden beard and hair. Destroyed by an angry mob in Constantinople.

Personally, I prefer the statue to the angry mob. Mobs are a dime a dozen.

NOTE: Member, Tomasia uses this site to slander other individuals. He then later proclaims it a joke, but not in public.
I will call him a liar and a dog here and now.

Some memorials have to be removed. Otherwise we still would have Hitler busts and streets. Stalin statues all over the east.

It doesn't take an angry mob to see the necessity to remove something like that. And yes, these confederate statues are along the same lines. Remnants of an inhumane past, when people were a commodity to be sold.

They should be put where they belong. In a museum, not on the streets and not in a place of honor, in front of public buildings.

RE: Alt right protests
Why I liked the video I posted was because they went into detail on why that particular statue needed to be removed. The person represented was not someone who should be honoured in any way, responsible for a court decision that made it official that black people were "inferior" to white people. That statue was set up in a prominent place near the courthouse. As a black person working in the legal profession, or as a black defendant, or as black *anything*, you'd have that lovely reminder of what the legal system really thinks of you. It's just one statue, but there are plenty like it. The other point made in the video is that it's not like these statues will be destroyed. They are simply now of historical interest, not a celebration of the figures represented.
