Iraq was operated under a dictatorship, not terrorists, and experienced less strife under Hussein than it did under America's bungled 'liberation'. Facepalm

We unilaterally intervened, under blatantly false pretenses, to supposedly save a people that simply never asked to be saved. The only people who benefited from the bungled war (outside of the Kurds) were the oil companies and the military industrial complex.

I suppose you don't consider genocide to be strife?

I fail to see how trading one bad situation for another bad situation (which cost tax-payers billions and only really benefited corporations, and this is not is dispute) could be considered in any way 'progress'... Facepalm

Corporate interests trump public interests in the United States, and the government at the Federal level has been almost entirely bought through legal bribes (i.e. campaign contributions). To say that corporations had zero vested interest in pursuing, or profiting from, the war in Iraq; you're a fucking moron. Blackwater's profits went up by orders of magnitude, and oil companies procured favorable contracts to extract from the country; helping them bring in record profits while gasoline prices still go up and while still getting government subsidies...

Better a fragile democracy than a stable genocidal dictatorship.

"Fragile democracy" is a bit of an overstatement on the current stability of the Iraqi region.
