RE: America vs Britain in war...
Canadians hold the record in competition. The British record was real time in a fight in Afghanistan and there's some "controversy" such as, was it really that long, maybe they were killed from the other gunfire, yada yada. We're going by the record as recounted by the British snipers themselves, which can only be taken at it's word. Shrug.

The Brits I've seen at shooting ranges looked uncomfortable with their guns. The SAS is overrated.
But none of that really matters... it's just sniping. I just go by what I've seen. I've seen some of the best soldiers I know try for Delta and fail in the first few weeks. I know that the rejection rate of our special forces is at around 70%. I know we spend 660 billion dollars a year on military defense, China being in 2nd place with a mere 90 billion. (We spend more than the 15 countries after us combined) Britain is so contained in such a small area that air strikes alone would decimate it before we even sent in ground troops. Even our tanks would have no resistance since they still use the laughable Challenger 2.

This isn't the Redcoats and the Royal Fleet come to kill some farmers. It's a comparably small nation known more for rugby than for it's military might.

RE: America vs Britain in war...
America would spend so much money on a military that cannot win wars.
The American military may have battle experience, but not against a civilized nation for years. Every conflict in the last few decades has been the invasion, civilian massacre and failure to hold on to 3rd world countries.

The British ground army drove off a larger Americanized Argentine force without air or water control, tanks or automatic weapons during the Falkland conflict. Also in Afghanistan right now even though Britain's small army can only cover one region, it was decided by the UN to give Britain the second most dangerous region because British rank and file would do a good job without the need for the specialists that the USA has to deploy to hold the heavy regions, and the rank and file only just hold on to "quieter"

Still with competitions and stuff has always been a thing with the USA. The USA can take anything, cover it in sugar and safety wires and then win at it. Britain excels in the actual fields where the skills are needed.

Also, to be honest British people look uncomfortable with everything >.>

RE: America vs Britain in war...
I find it amusing that people are so quick to quote the difference in numbers between American and British military spending/troops etc. and then claim that it means America would win. I would love to know the differences in spending/troops etc. between the Americans and the Viet Cong and that didn't do much good.

I'm not saying Britain would win, I think it would be a stalemate, but to just quote the numbers is rather short-sighted.

PS. If people are talking about some of the best trained forces I know no-one in America will want to say it but what about some of the Russian Spetsnaz (yes I have been watching Deadliest Warrior Big Grin).

RE: America vs Britain in war...
Vietnam wasn't won for a number of reasons, a big one being the threat of China entering the war and making it into a much bigger skirmish. Another was poor direction from the top and no will to win it at home. It wasn't a matter of poorly trained troops and bad equipment, although lack of skill in fighting in that terrain was a factor. Had we been willing to deal out massive civilian casualties, we could have dendered most of the land uninhabitable - and I believe if it came to surrendering sovereignty to Britain or dealing out massive casualties, the British Isles would resemble Fallout 3

Better without God, and happier too.

If it was a war of stereotypes then you "yanks" would be drinking your Kool-aid whilst driving tanks in a zig-zag to avoid your own aircrafts incoming fire. Shouting "wooooooooooo" with busty ladies with pom poms cheerleading the way.

Us "poms" would be driving our tanks whilst drinking tea, fervently writing letters of complaint that 1/4 of our troops dont have adequate body armour. Shouting "Tally ho" whilst singing "God save the queen" and saluting a picture of her majesty (the bitch) Smile

I think the only time Britian and America would go to war is when there is no other countrys left in the world to invade and exploit economically.
I do have to say that if they started to force national service on the people then when they came for me I would lock myself in my house and blast this at them at 800 watts.

Then I would go to prison for refusing to take part Smile

British nuclear arsenal- 225
American nuclear arsenal- 9.600

I could go on with other figures, but clearly the Americans would win. I mean, they (or reluctantly, we) spend nearly 700 billion dollars a year on our defense budget.

If we assume America is involved in no other conflicts, it wouldn't even be close. If it went nuclear, then America could carpet bomb every square foot of the tiny little island with nukes, whereas Britain could only take out major population areas (which I guess would have the same effect).

Then again, I'm no military theorist. Am I missing something?
I think this theory is quite stupid.Laughat America may have more men and slightly more nukes but their men are not trained nearly as well as the British forces. The British forces are still trained like they were in WW2 so they dont have to rely on electronics. If there was an EMP they would know what to do. As for numbers... A lot of countries hate America and it wouldnt take much for them to join in. Britain also has many allies where as America only has Britain which wouldnt be much if they were having a war. Many people think Britain has little nukes but they have enough to blow America up easily. The government even has hidden nukes for emergency so you cant really count how many we have. Britain has them all over the World. So yeh. Im pretty sure a war between two powerful allies will ever happen but if it did then your theory is shit. Big Grin

Before the Falklands conflict didn't America claim it would be an impossibility to reclaim the islands if they fell?

Fucking amateurs!

Roll up in Hummers, because they are cool. Throw grenades at building until everyone inside is dead, because explosions are fucking cool. Drag corpse of person you just 'rescued' out of the rubble and stick American flag in them. High five anyone in your platoon still alive.

RE: America vs Britain in war...
Ah, the quality of British soldiers, nothing can compare to them, maybe only Spetsnaz. But, unfortunately, I'd say no, USA would won that war, the pure numbers are just too much. As I see it today we have 3 major players, USA, Russia and China, all other need a lot of allies to be in the competition, so if you asked: USA vs. EU, now that would be questionable, maybe even EU would have won. But just GB against USA, no, no way in an full scale war.

Information RE: America vs Britain in war...
So what! Yes America have a bigger army but Britain have a better trained army with tactics that you wouldn't even understand. We can cope in a war, I mean take a look at the Two world wars, we coped then, infact we won 'em.
I've signed up for the British army because they're the best in the world and I feel safer with them. No doubt America have a good army, but i dont think that they're tactically ready for a battle with the best. Theres a reason why Britain haven't lost a war in nearly a 1000 years. I'm not saying that we can destroy your country, all im saying that we'd probably win.
If there was a 3rd World War, it would result in a nuclear war without a doubt. America have a great arsenal of nuclear bombs, but Britain have just invested £25bn in nuclear submarines alone.
After all this talk I dont think that America and Britain will go to war, I mean theres no reason. We are like best friends that stick up for each other. But i suppose good things never last.
It's more likely that a world war will be beetween America and China or the classic battle Beetween Britain and Germany. Not Britain and America.
Tell me your thoughts on what i've said, have i missed something? Or have i got it spot on?
