An Invitation to Argue the Legitimacy of a God/Gods
If anyone is willing to, I would like to debate the legitimacy of the existence of a god/gods. I need to practice for an upcoming debate at my school (yes, it is a Christian school, even though I am an atheist).

All Gods are bastards. Refute?

Well, Girly is God, but only through illegitimate means. Tongue

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

Are you arguing for or against?

Sorry for not making this clear: I am arguing why Gods are not legitimate (I'm an atheist and my friend set up this debate with the school council, using my name, against my will). If I win this debate, I can gain extra funding to the group of people who aren't Christian (including the Muslims, Hindus, and atheists).

Define "legitimate".

As in "legitimate" in terms of being part of a religion ie you could have a religion without a god/gods, or as in "legitimate" proving the existence or non-existence of said god/gods?

I say that because if it's the latter, you need to quantify what counts as evidence. If metaphysical experiences/anecdotal stories/feelings/etc count as evidence YOU CANNOT WIN THIS DEBATE.

If it's based solely on empirical evidence, then the theist has no chance to win the debate unless you allow him to slip in some of those experiences as evidence.

It is based on empirical evidence and logic, this Christian school is more logical than most. Also, they aren't allowing the use of experiences because they know that that is bullcrap. I just need some practice to arrange my ideas and prepare myself (I have no problem speaking, but I do need to practice what I'm going to say). And before this is asked, the debate is in the same structure as the Nye-Ham debate.
