An appalling application of technology
So I happened to be flicking through the TV channels and chanced upon this vile piece of technology. The God Pod. Basically a small solar powered ipod like device missionaries use to spread their propaganda to people with no written language. It was all the OT and NT in spoken form in Pidgen and they want people to donate money to distribute these infernal things among the tribes of Papua New Guinea.

here is a link http://shipoffools.com/gadgets/personal/145.html, but it doesn't even begin to convey the horror of the ad I saw.

Why can't they just leave brown people alone? PNG must be the last place on earth with a truly diverse traditional native society so why to they want to go and wreck it?

They have already made the Pacific Islands culture as boring as fuck with their nonsense and pretty much destroyed the economic status of it's people with their rabid indoctrination. I detest missionaries. I really do. About the only thing that gives me hope is the Cargo Cults and John Frum movement rejecting their silliness. Ok different country, but it can be done.

Well you cannot restrict a technologies use once it is invented.

There are hundreds of inventions that have been used for purposes that they werent meant by the inventor to be used for.

this might work. Not much to it on there but the ad was awful some nutter wandering around telling people to give money and look at these poor heathens who desperately need the word of God to save them. They all looked happy enough to me.

I know. It was bound to happen. It is just wrong on so many levels. Literacy levels are a fairly good indication of social advancement and self determination
, esp for girls. But this nonsense not only encourages it but sets out that there is only one book of any value and we won't actually teach you to read it, we will just tell you what to believe. At the same time they are seeking to undermine some of the most unique traditional societies left on earth. It is medieval.

I'm assuming you can't record or rewrite files, it's just read only stuff? Huh. Why don't they have this available for other books?
