Animation
Do you think animation will ever catch on in the west as a form of adult entertainment? Is it due to forever be a form of children's entertainment and anime fans.

RE: Animation
Whut? Maybe I misread the question?
Video games have reached an epic level in adult entertainment and the animation is stunning. Thumbsup I don't play video games but my husband does and the details are incredible. My future son-in-law plays games and I don't have to play to appreciate the amazing animation I'm witnessing.

I wasn't counting videogames. And I think the Simpsons and Family Guy are too simple to count. Those are very rinse and repeat shows. I was talking about like on the level of Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead.

So you are using a No true Scotsman approach. Yes animation is an acceptable but right now it is the SitComs that are in that group. It is much like TV itself, but most adults I know are moved to tears by Miyazaki's work when they see it. The stigma is mostly gone now and you can thank Family Guy and the Simpsons for removing it.

Animation is just a medium, if you pay attention most of it isn't even mostly for children. Filled with jokes and innuendoes that children just won't get. Here(US) it's mostly entertainment for everyone of all ages and there has been some directly targeted to adults (Cool World, Fritz the Cat, Heavy Metal, Family Guy, lots of adult swim crap.)
You have to understand, because some soapboxer Henry Wortham claimed that comics lead to juvenile delinquency comics depicting horror, blood, murder, supernatural, led to widespread censorship and even lead to the creation of self-censorship from many comic producers and as a result many things just lost their edge and in some cases never got it back. It took awhile for the medium to mature again, much like cartoons. And another thing...where have you been? Stop watching Disney junior, hardly any cartoons beyond that are for that demographic. Demographics be damned, there are many cartoons that are catching onto people well over the ages of targeted demographics.
Edit: I'd hate to break it to you but anime are also cartoonsTongue

RE: Animation
anime = animation from japan. I don't know the definition of "cartoon" but if "cartoon" means "anything that is animated" then sure, anime is a cartoon.

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.

You implying anime fans are not - or cannot be - adults, m8?

Anime. Anime is big in the west, and it's getting bigger. So unless you mean western produced, you have an ill conceived notion here.

As a huge anime fan I know that westerners have an ill-conceived notion of animation most peoples first two thoughts are tenacle porn or Disney. Unfortunately most westerns still see anime fans as overweight 40 year old virgin basement dwellers. I as a cute girl always come as major shock.
