RE: Another Twitter skirmish

Quote:President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday morning ranted about The New York Times on Twitter and canceled a meeting with the newspaper’s executives, reporters and columnists.
On Twitter, Mr. Trump claimed that the Times had changed the terms and conditions of the meeting, which was reportedly supposed to be on the record.

Quote:“We were unaware that the meeting was cancelled until we saw the President Elect’s tweet this morning,” said Eileen Murphy, senior vice president of communications at the Times. “We did not change the ground rules at all and made no attempt to. They tried to yesterday - asking for only a private meeting and no on-the-record segment, which we refused to agree to. In the end, we concluded with them that we would go back to the original plan of a small off the record session and a larger on the record session with reporters and columnists.”

Doesn't one of his sons own the competition paper in New York? That explains his continued messing with the NYT.

Quote:Mr. Trump then tweeted he has “great meetings” planned at Trump Tower Tuesday as he organizes his incoming administration during the transition period.

Quote:He also tweeted Monday night about his possible conflicts of interests and blamed the media, which he described as “crooked” for making a big deal.

I can see where this is going already. The Republicans are setting Trump up for impeachment so Pence can implement their real agenda.

I hope it gets to a point that is so insane and out of control that even his staunch supporters finally realize that he's a sick man and needs to be institutionalized.........permanently !

I've watched interviews with Trump's supporters. None, so far, appears to have paid the least attention to anything their idol says or does. As is often the case with political revolutions involving mavericks and political outsiders riding into town to assume the vacant post of sheriff, a cult following develops in which rational thought has no role. Adherents of such cults, especially when they're brand new, look to the cult's leader for authoritarian leadership, not cogent, well-constructed policies. Like members of religious cults, they regard outsiders with a mixture of complete indifference - because, of course, all outsiders are liars and agents of Satan etc etc etc - and contempt.

For the moment, Trump is the Supreme Pontiff of the Church of Donald. While his Mussolini-like megalomania and general indifference to others are assets at the outset of his papacy, voters are going to stop being impressed by his pointless boasting and neo-Nixonian rants against the media and they're going to be wanting to see jobs flowing back into America. When it's clear even to members of the congregation that there is next to nothing Pope Donnie can do about an alleged 11,000,000 undocumented immigrants, the spell for many of them will be broken. The worry is that even worse people than Trump, alas, might strive to out-do him to win back the apostates.
