Suicide bomber? Says the person attempting to undermine me by equating me to people who blow up themselves and other human beings in propagation of their faith? Who's knee-jerk yanking on emotional cords now?

It wasn't a matter of agenda you fucktard. My point stands that #GamerGate simply would not have occurred had an ex-girlfriend accused their former boyfriend of sleeping around with female game journalist to somehow promote their indie game.

Are you really, truly, worried about integrity in games journalism? Then indies developers are not the problem. Why? BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO FUCKING MONEY DUMBASS! That's why they are indie developers. Anybody trying to shield themselves with that bullshit should have pitchforks and torches and be storming the gates of Electronic Arts, Activision, and Ubisoft; not slut-shaming Zoe and making death threats against her. For fucks' sake, that you can be that fucking oblivious to reality...

There is no need to be an asshole because we disagree on politics when discussing something completely unrelated to politics. And second, I'm not a libertarian and my character actually looks pretty cool, there are just a few things I would like to change.

Are you really so upset by people disagreeing with you that you have to attack them at every opportunity?

Translation: Why are you being such a big mean poo-poo head?

One has to wonder why such a supposedly conservative bastion of free-speech has to so much malign the expressed free-speech of those who just so happen to not like or agree with them?

I was a Goldwater conservative back in my college days. That was before I had lived long enough to realize the social damage done by unchecked capitalism. Then I read "Grapes of Wrath" and have never been the same.

That's an interesting turn on the nose. I like to see that type of understanding come across to people.

Makes me have a question for Res Publica, So Res; Have you ever read Harry Potter? Not seen the movies but read the books?

I've seen the movies up to the 6þ, but I stopped watching after that.

And I'm hardly a conservative. I'm an atheist and I support gay marriage, abortion with restrictions, profanity, pornography, Betty Friedan feminism, wealth redistribution and free-market socialism. I'm more like a fellow traveler, or useful idiot, depending on how you want to look at it. I really only support conservatives because they are the only ones opposing leftist totalitarianism.

That you are blind to winning combination of substance and vitriol, well, is not my problem.

I asked because I recently heard from some podcasts oddly referencing this studies finding.

who knows how legitimate such studies would show. But given some instances it says about people being more open to foreign refugees or issues, I thought it would be intriguing to ask.

RE: Any Republican Atheists Here?
This is a great topic. I just spent an hour reading every page. It was very eye opening.

Myself, I tend to vote for the party in the direction to which I am leaning at that particular time. In my younger days, I voted for Democrats because my atheism was a huge part of my life and separation of church and state was VERY important to me. Republicans were just too religious, and that faith based initiative crap used to chap my hide. I voted for Gore, Kerry, Obama the first time and then Romney.

As I got older and matured, my atheism didn't run my every day life. It used to consume me. I would read Carl Sagan like he was my religion. I would read every book then start over again for years on end. Books on evolution, big bang theory etc. Sometime around age 30 my atheism took a back seat. I was no longer in the military and working normal jobs with regular people. I started seeing things that turned me off to liberalism. I started working undercover loss prevention and something just stood out to me. After catching thousands of shoplifters, I realized that with the exception of a few, they all were liberals. They all had attitudes against authority, the police. They didn't have jobs. Not because they couldn't find work. Because they didn't want to work. They got welfare and foodstamps, but would trade their foodstamps for weed or other drugs then come steal food from the stores I work. During the 2012 election I asked every shoplifter I caught who they were voting for and every single one of them said Obama.

After seeing these things, I began to think that too many people have "entitlement mentality" and they all seem to be democrats. Here I was, working a full time job and a second job part time to make ends meet, and people are getting handouts because they want to. I would work 5 jobs before I ever accepted a penny of welfare or foodstamps. Maybe that's just my work ethic. I would catch people shoplifting and after searching them I would find multiple ID's, fake ID's, multiple food stamp cards. They had no shame. Socialism, wealth redistribution and the like are so far against my personal beliefs that it shook my political beliefs to the core. I had never put much thought into it until I saw it with my own eyes every day.

After supporting democrats for my entire life due to my hate of republicans attempts at knocking down the wall of separation of church and state, I found myself voting republican Ohmy

I had to make a choice. Do I support gay marriage? Yes. Abortion? Yes, during the first trimester. Birth Control? Yes. Separation of church and state? Yes.

So I should be vote democrat, right?

It's not that easy. I started looking at other issues and realized that republicans fit my other beliefs. Gun rights. Military spending. Protecting the border. Taxes.

In my youth I voted democrat because those social issues were important to me. Now at age 36 with a family and job those social issues don't concern me. I don't care if gays can get married. I don't care if women have access to abortions. These issues don't affect me one bit. But things like gun rights are a major thing for me. I love to hunt deer for food. Home invasion robberies, lone wolf terrorists, mass shooters are threats that shouldn't be ignored. The ability to protect myself and my family is #1, and people like Michael Bloomberg and Diane Feinstein scare the hell out of me. I don't want to live in a world where only criminals and government have guns.

So I'm willing to deal with the cooky far right christian nuts because when push comes to shove, I'd rather be on their side.

Death is a debt we all must pay.

Interesting.

Quote:Finally, a group of college students in the U.K. was asked about their attitude toward refugees, another marginalized group. In this study, the participants' feelings hinged on how much they hated the nefarious Voldemort.

Those who identified less with Voldemort demonstrated "improved attitudes toward refugees," researchers said.

I wonder what it says about me that I don't hate Voldemort - I always felt sorry for Tom Riddle.

Politically, I'm quite lost right now. I need to do some research. Neither major party is beneficial to the middle class.
