Are atheists snobs?
I have to admit it, I'm a bit of a snob. I have a difficult time relating to anyone who is uneducated. Would you consider this snobbery? It doesn't make any difference if the person is self educated, that is they may not have had the opportunity to attend a college but have read books on a variety of subjects and out of curiosity, continue to learn. Sometimes I wonder if my being an atheist has as much to do with an attraction to the general intelligence of the atheist community as it does with the similar agreement towards religion and god.

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

Re: Are atheists snobs?
Not sure it's innately connected to atheist but I've seen it from uneducated atheista.d... But I've also seen it from Christians of both educated or not.

It's probably a bit of a factor but not something alone that encourages it.

The British ones are.

Consider

But that may have nothing to do with atheism.

I think elitists can tend to be snobs in their area of interest. Also, I think that people can be far more rude and condescending online than in person. I run into fairly little snobbery when talking to atheists in person.

RE: Are atheists snobs?
I don´t know if I am. In my line of work (nursing) I have to be able to talk to everyone and be empathetic and understanding.

But privately, I don´t let just anyone in. And as soon someone tells me they go to this and that church or what ever, I am right away turned off any kind of relationship after that. I guess that is kind of snobbish. Educated or not, I guess I find religious people to be stupid for being religious... ok, I´m a snob.

Being a snob has little/nothing to do with religious beliefs.

Yes they are. Believing everyone who doesn't believe what you believe in will be going to hell is religious snobbery. I tend to gravitate towards smart people who often are atheists. So I don't know if it's a cause or an effect. My best friends are smart people and mostly atheist or agnostic.

I think a lot of time we are accused of being snobs by theists because we dont just fall for faith. Sort of like how lots of theists think its persecution to not get their own way.
