RE: Are you biased?
I'm gonna get you all a dictionary. You still do not understand that you are all biased, you can not escape that. Being biased means you have your own opinion on certain things, and opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.

The topic is poorly phrased at best, I was assuming that the poll would be ''yes'' or ''no'' and not ''I hate fags'' etc as it makes no sense as a poll. However the point being made is that we are all discriminatory by default as choice by definition creates one preferable option over another.

The word discriminate has been hijacked by political correctness to mean that if you say ''yes I discriminate'' to mean ''I hate black people because they are black'' etc etc with the list going on when all it means in reality is yes I am a human being, I make choices in my life.

Quote:I am not biased towards any of the listed things.

That is not true, you have your own experience and your own opinion about all or some of the nations/races/choices that were listed there, so that makes you biased. Being "biased" is not a bad thing, it is not something strange, it is a part of your everyday life. Maybe you will be objective when talking about all those things, but that does not suggest that you do not have some personal opinion and feelings about all those things listed. Right? Oh the philosophy, don't you just love it?

I'm not quite sure if you read my post accurately as I directly stated that discrimination is a by-product of choice.

To answer your question, actually no. I do not have a bias against any nationality, infact I hate the idea of there being individual countries let alone nationalities. It is true I am well aware of many stereotypes that are involved with certain nationalities but I am well aware of those stereotypes when they run through my mind and can easily ignore them without question

EDIT
Just realised you were refering to the person above me (the original quote did not appear so assumed it was in reference to my post) but I will leave my statement up none the less Tongue

Again, with respect, I beg to differ - Hate did not "make the nazis do what they did".

Indifference, platitudes and passivity ALLOWED the nazi regime to DO what they did.

Hope you can see the difference between cause and correlation there.....

If more people had hated and opposed the nazi regime, (and possibly died opposing it). Then............... ?

But no, as usual people disliked and where uncomfortable with them, but hey they are entitled to an opinion, what can we do, lets be fair, bla bla bla and then bosh 8 million dead............

Indifference thy name is cowardice.

I am sorry? You are saying that the Nazis are not responsible for their actions, but rather the people who let them do so are? Your logic is flawed. Antisemitism was present in the world for a thousand years. It wasn't the the racist's fault though, only the people who let them be racist.

More? Almost all of Europe had some sort of resistance. The only reason the Nazis plowed through them is because they were prepared for it.

Sorry been away for a few days, so missed this. Was happy to forget about this thread, but I thought I would be polite and reply, just to clear up any doubt.

No Logica, I am not saying "the Nazi regime was not responsible for their actions, but rather the people who let them do so are" How you could infer that from what I did say, is beyond me.

To redefine and give an interpretation of a statement and then point out the logical flaws in your own interpretation is, to be honest, somewhat disingenuous.

I will put it down to poor communication skills on my part.

I think Lilith P. picked up what I was aiming at.

With regard to hate. Hate can also be a positive affective state.

If I hate injustice, cruelty, suffering etc. The emotion may be powerful enough to make me do something about these things.... in a positive way.

Hope that's a bit clearer.

In life you can't have everything................. Where would you put it ?

RE: Are you biased?
There are no good or bad emotions, they are a part of us as human beings, the only good or bad is what we do with those emotions and how we act upon them.

P.S.

Hmmmm... Now this line is something for the signature...

I think the word hate means what it means. I care not how much or how little it is used.

hate (/hāt/) - To feel hostility or animosity toward.

Instead of being lazy, use the language you speak properly. There is a difference between disliking and hating something.

Yes and you know what those word mean when you bare down to definition as well?

an·i·mos·i·ty/ˌanəˈmäsitē/
Noun: Strong hostility.

hos·til·i·ty
[ho-stil-i-tee] Show IPA
noun, plural -ties.
1.a hostile state, condition, or attitude; enmity; antagonism; unfriendliness.
2.a hostile act.
3.opposition or resistance to an idea, plan, project, etc.
4.hostilities,
a.acts of warfare.
b.war.

Based on those definitions, I would definitely say I hate Nazi's and still stand by my original post.

So you just admitted to feeling the same things Nazis did? Interesting.

Bottom line is this. You do not hate the people, you hate the ideals. If you do hate the people, you are no more innocent than a Neo-Nazi.

If by feeling the same things you mean, I am deeply opposed/resistant to the principals of the Nazi's as they were of groups not their own, yes.

Hate isn't a bad word. It does not mean the connotations it may carry as some sort of act of violence. The whole of actions matter a lot more than the ideas or feelings one could have. If there was no resistance to opposing ideals, we would become a bunch of automaton sheep.

Who said anything about people? Is this poll asking if I hate John the Nazi? Not at all, it's asking about grouped labels and that puts the ideals of the term on the stand. Not any individual person.

You can feel deeply opposed, but hate is not the right word for that.

Hate is a bad word. You just supported my argument. And, I'd like to point out, most people are sheep (and blind ones at that).

It says "Do you hate Nazi's", not "Do you hate Nazism". And you are correct! You didn't say you hate a specific Nazi. You said you hate ALL Nazis!
