Flood Myths

Quote:Excavations in Iraq have revealed evidence of localized flooding at Shuruppak (modern Tell Fara, Iraq) and various other Sumerian cities. A layer of riverine sediments, radiocarbon dated to about 2900 BC, interrupts the continuity of settlement, extending as far north as the city of Kish, which took over hegemony after the flood. Polychrome pottery from the Jemdet Nasr period (3000-2900 BC) was discovered immediately below the Shuruppak flood stratum. Other sites, such as Ur, Kish, Uruk, Lagash, and Ninevah, all present evidence of flooding. However, this evidence comes from different time periods. Geologically, the Shuruppak flood coincides with the 5.9 kiloyear event at the end of the Older Peron. It would seem to have been a localised event caused through the damming of the Kurun through the spread of dunes, flooding into the Tigris, and simultaneous heavy rainfall in the Nineveh region, spilling across into the Euphrates. In Israel, there is no such evidence of a widespread flood. Given the similarities in the Mesopotamian flood story and the Biblical account, it would seem that they have a common origin in the memories of the Shuruppak account.

Flood Myths

Here's another article regarding a news story:
skeleton found in museum closet

Hmm. What I was trying to say was that the flood myth in genesis seemed to be derived from actual floods that happened in that locality.

Should I have phrased it differently?

Replica ark? - What we do know is:
  • it's not big enough to accommodate every species of animal.
  • it won't float
  • there is no evidence for a worldwide flood.
  • fossils were deposited over many millions of years
  • Noah and his family were not responsible for repopulating the world
  • Ken Sham is hoping to make a lot of money from this "attraction"

All floods have silt layers. There is no silt layer, all over the earth. Tens of thousands of archaeological sites have been excavated BELOW the point to where one would be found. It's simply NOT there.

Noah's family did not populate anything. DNA proves it.

Here's one of the oft-repeated hoaxes that is cited as proof of Noah's Ark:

I can't believe that anyone hasn't pointed out that Ham, using an army or workers, modern tools and techniques, took longer to build this monstrosity than the babble says it took a 600 year old man and his century-old boys to build. Ham is actually disproving his own story but is too deluded to see that.

The Bible indicates it probably took 120 years.

Quote:Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”
(Genesis 6:3 ESV)

That is a lot longs than it took to build the modern ark.

The information in ancient libraries came from real minds of real people. The far more complex information in cells came from the far more intelligent mind of God.

How old are you? Eleven, twelve?

Home-schooled probably.
