What is your perspective on China getting involved in the Korean war? And, if you were taught history, was it explained why China became involved directly, and perhaps why they came to North Korea's physical military aid so late?

Middle school was a long time ago for me. Please spare me a few moments to get my memories back.

No. Middle and high school history lessons didn't involve such details. I need to search it.

Reasons for China's involvement in the Korean war:

[1] North Korea, a socialist state, was attacked by South Korea, almost annihilated, and asked for help from China.
[2] North Korea was more intimate with the USSR but the USSR didn't support North Korea in fear of losses in a potential between it and USA. The flames of war were near China's boarders. Judging from the war between Spain and USA, who was there to say that PRC, established merely one year before this war, wasn't a potential target?
[3] China had huge numbers of veterans and generals who had at least experienced one or two major battles.
[4] And China was very determined at that time not to let another foreign country to bring war and civilian casualties onto her territories again, like what happened in the Qing Dynasty and the Republican period.

So we are going in ...

I found no valuable result regarding the "so late" thing. But I have several obvious answers.
[1] China was really very very poor at that time with little support from the USSR, who liked North Korea a lot more. And China had just ended a civil war, with the KMT government having swept away nearly all the valuables.
[2] The road and logistics conditions were really rudimentary.
[3] It was near winter, yet the troops totally weren't prepared for a war under such conditions.
[4] The majority of the army was in South China, originally intended to capture Taiwan.

So it was pretty darn brave for those "volunteer" army soldiers to travel all the way to the freezing North Korea to fight the most frightened army of the USA, well, and its allies. Salute.

Once of course this was encouraged to be honest etc.. they were. As a result the Party higher ups did not like what the people had to say and thus the anti-rightest movement, where it was considered a crime if you supported that scheme. A scheme in which Mao himself implemented and planed...
They didn't like what they herd and they got pissed off and simply decided that those people were anti-communist without any thought of those persons welfare.

It's rather interesting, "People's" Republic of China. "People's", so long as those "People" are poor as shit and belong to the Mao cult...

As a result of the anti-rightest movement nobody dared question Mao's word which very likely was the key factor in the worst famine in human history not long after the anti-rightest movement. Though Mao's governments policies were mostly to blame too.

All in the name of "Communism" and the "Party".

My point is that your god Mao was a horrible person.

Okey, stick to that then, good for you.

You know, at one time I thought you could be reasonable enough for me to communicate with. I now stand corrected.

Nice to see you, hum, who was I talking to?

Weird.

Interesting.

Do you always get this mad when someone mentions something bad about your god Mao? and brings up some of your modern day history including the worst famine the world has ever seen??
You cannot deny these things never happened because they did. I want your opinion on them. Afterall, they were all done in the name of "Communism".

That's an interesting perspective.

By all history I've seen, North Korea attacked the South first, initiating the war on June 25th after crossing the 38th parallel. The North had actually forced and contained the remnants of the South's army to a small region around Pusan before the United Nations forces landed at Inchon and pushed the North Koreans back, occupying the Pyongyang on 19th Oct.

After that, the UN was pushed back past Seoul when the Chinese intervened a little later in October, which proved that the Chinese military was more than able to intervene earlier than when it did. After the UN retook Seoul in March the war pretty much became a static stalemate between PRC and PRK combined forces and the combined forces of the US, UN and ROK.

And all this was almost a decade before the Sino-Soviet Split, so I see no reason why the Soviets would give preferential treatment to a state like North Korea compared to China...

Thanks for the answer!

So you simply turn a blind eye to Mao's atrocities?
