Every time they teach official Doctrine I agree. I know it is true.
I also know that I don't have to agree with all their personal opinions.

I was raised an atheist. Now I like to talk to atheists from another side of the island.

I'm not asking your opinion. I'm asking what you believe your religion says on the matter.

What, right away? You don't, say, think about it for a while to determine if it sounds moral or sensible?

(14-01-2014 10:30 PM)Alla Wrote:  I know it is true.

What does that mean, exactly? Do you mean to say that you believe it is true based on faith? Do you mean to say that you have knowledge based on actual evidence or proof? If neither of those, what then?

How do you distinguish when a prophet is giving an opinion, or speaking on behalf of god? Every word out of the mouth of the speakers at General Conference, every six months, is printed in the church magazine and considered to be as good as scripture. How do you account for this marvelously long period without a single invalid opinion? These are fallible men giving supposedly infallible speeches. Your thoughts?

Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness.

That sentence makes me mildly queasy. Were you given any kind of choice in the matter, or was Atheism mandatory in your youth?

I sincerely hope you had some choice.

I don't have my own opinion on this matter.

And therein lies the problem. You have someone else's opinion, or will.

I cannot imagine surrendering my own life for what someone else tells me I should think.

We have enough youth. How about looking for the Fountain of Smart?
