Are they worried about vampires? Are there a bunch of garlic braids to go with the crosses?

You must have missed the part where I said, "religious nutjobs". Tongue

Might as well add a bunch of garlic braids. Just out of an abundance of caution and whatnot.

There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide. -Camus

For those who don't know who E. O. Wilson is, he's an entomologist (ant specialist) who made some of the biggest breakthroughs in that field, during the first half of his career, and who has dedicated the second half of his life to the scientific education of the public and to fighting to preserve the (8% of the original total) rainforests that remain on earth, which contain roughly 75% of terrestrial biodiversity. He's something of a hero in the scientific community, though sadly he's not as well known outside of it as I'd like.

I've always considered meeting my Beloved at his speech to be prescient for our relationship's lack of religious problems, despite her Christianity and my atheism, since Dr. Wilson is known as a Christian by tradition, but fierce secularist by philosophy. A few of his sayings:

"The biological evolutionary perception of life and of human qualities is radically different from that of traditional religion, whether it's Southern Baptist or Islam or any religion that believes in a supernatural supervalance over humanity."

"I see no way out of the problems that organized religion and tribalism create other than humans just becoming more honest and fully aware of themselves."

"Religious belief itself is an adaptation that has evolved because we're hard-wired to form tribalistic religions."

"Theology made no provision for evolution. The biblical authors had missed the most important revelation of all! Could it be that they were not really privy to the thoughts of God?"

"Religious beliefs evolved by group-selection, tribe competing against tribe, and the illogic of religions is not a weakness but their essential strength."

"I'm very much a Christian in ideals and ethics, especially in terms of belief in fairness, a deep set obligation to others, and the virtues of charity, tolerance and generosity that we associate with traditional Christian teaching."

Divorce does seem to be one of the things that the Jesus character in the Bible does not like at all, since he mentions it so often. Divorce doesn't bother me as much as it bothered Jesus. I'm very glad that my husband left his first marriage (four years, he got married at age 21), and to my mind, most of my family members' second marriage choices were better than their first. However, I'm hoping I won't have to go through a divorce. We'll make it to the 20-year mark in January.

Congrats, that is awesome. My wife's parents have been together 34 years. My father and stepmother have been married now 36 years, and my mother and stepfather have been marrried around 20 years. I look forward to making it past 7 for once Unsure lol

That is my wife's ongoing joke, that I am going to trade her in at 7 years...and I always respond no honey, I hit the lottery with you, it doesnt make sense to trade down, and anyone but you would be a trade down. AngelHeartAngel

It sounds from your post describing her that you two are truly a great match!

You gotta love the cherrypicking and blatant hypocrisy.

The Bible also says not to judge, but that doesn't stop them from condemning gays, now does it? Wink

Why in the world would her vagina enter into this?

In her defense, the conversation is about adultery... Vaginas are involved (so I'm told)

Perhaps the problem lies in that nothing is entering her vagina? Just a thought.

Hmm, it is hard to believe. Actions are more convincing than your words:"I am not a hater blah-blah-blah"

I pick on you because you're an ignorant jackass, not because you may or may not have a set of tits.

Fuckin' wanker...

I've been married to my first husband for 27 years.

Obviously I'm doing something kinda wrong.

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces
