Dude, it's a lot worse than 25%. Wink

Matthew 5:27-28 Wrote:27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Jesus Christ himself considers thought crimes to be a violation of the commandment. Divorce is just the smaller part of the iceberg you can see.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

lets review:

Mark 10:11-12

And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

Luke 16:18

“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

Deuteronomy 24:1-22

“When a man takes a wife and marries her, if then she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, and she departs out of his house, and if she goes and becomes another man's wife, and the latter man hates her and writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter man dies, who took her to be his wife, then her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after she has been defiled, for that is an abomination before the Lord. And you shall not bring sin upon the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance. “When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be liable for any other public duty. He shall be free at home one year to be happy with his wife whom he has taken. ...Blink

Matthew 19:9

And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.”

Matthew 5:32

But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

1 Corinthians 7:10-17

To the married I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband (but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and the husband should not divorce his wife. To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. ...Laughat what the actual fuck Shocking

1 Corinthians 7:1-40

Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. ...Dodgy

soooooooooo I wonder how good god fearing folk who subscribe to the Xtian delusion comes to grips with this? Consider

I always find it amusing how people can pick and choose which scriptures they think are "valid" and which ones are....well...."suggestions" Laugh out load

Thoughts?

I don't know many divorcees, because in my ethnic community divorce is very rare. And the relative few that are, never really managed to get remarried.

So what's the common response from divorcees as to how the verses admonishing divorcee are not valid? Particularly since it was a view that was made more stringent by the Gospels?

I don't know how divorcees would respond to the Bibal's condemnation, but for some reason, I'm imagining something akin to this:

I thought the numbers were much higher than 1 in 4 marriages fail, I thought it was 3 in 4, or maybe that was businesses Consider

But when I researched it first I found that the numbers hit the worse in the 80-90s and have actually lessened in recent years. At work so I cant re-research for the info, but figured it was better to undersell the numbers to pad the reality, then oversell them and have indignant theists claim my numbers were intentionally overstated Facepalm

Great question, I wonder how they consciously and faithfully dismiss this inconvenient truth. Consider

And in no way am I sitting on my high horse, I have divorced 3 times, but then again, I am a heathen, so that at least makes sense in regards to scripture in my case Blush

I just was wondering the other day about it, and figured I'd make a post to see what people thought on both sides of the aisle so to speak.

No, I just meant the number of guys who have thought lustfully of a woman at least one time during their marriage, since that counts as adultery, too.
