At the beginning of the podcasts ...
... a voice says "the fastest growing group of people in the country has been measured as being those are those who have no belief, or who are atheists."
  • If I quote this to a theist is there a source I can cite, other than the podcasts, to back it up?
  • What "country" is the speaker talking about? The U.S. ?
  • Who is the speaker? It sounds like Hitchens to me but I could be wrong.

It's Daniel Dennett speaking about the US. Here's one reference:

Ummm no unfogged. That soundbyte was Hitch. Dennett was the one who says "you don't have to be apologetic or quiet about it."

See 39:55

The very idea of God is a product of the human imagination."

Damn, that's what I get for doing it from memory. Dennett is quoted saying "It is quite alright to be an atheist" right before Hitch says the part about it being the fastest growing group.

Praise FSM. I JUST happened to be listening to that when I read the thread. His noodly appendage works is mysterious ways. Ramen.

RE: At the beginning of the podcasts ...
Okay, here we go, standby... 3, 2, 1, action!

(Assume nothing.)
DAN HARRIS, NIGHTLINE: Brash, bald-faced blasphemy...
(Question everything.)
RICHARD DAWKINS: I find it extremely hard to imagine.
(Open your eyes.)
DAN DENNET: It is quite alright to be an atheist.
CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS: The fastest growing group of people in the country has been measured as being those who have no belief, or who are atheists.
DAN DENNET: You don't have to be apologetic or quiet about it.
(Challenge the opposition.)
SAM HARRIS: You see religion on a hundred fronts, losing the argument.
(And start thinking. This is The Thinking Atheist, worldwide.)

NEVER underestimate the omni-potency of His meaty balls!

That's great!

I think the feminine voice that says "Assume nothing","Question everything",etc, is someone of note but I don't know who. Does anyone?
