Ok, so it's pretty obvious that this is atheist socialism.

Re: Atheism +
There's been plenty of people that supposedly speak for the movement being total idiots. I don't think it sucks, I think it's just a group thing and that's it.

It's a secular humanist group that emphasizes atheist first, humanism second.

E 2 = (mc 2)2 + (pc )2
614C → 714N + e + ̅νe
2 K(s) + 2 H2O(l) → 2 KOH(aq) + H2 (g) + 196 kJ/mol
It works, bitches.

RE: Atheism +
^ With the militant attitude of the Atheism+ people, that is how I feel.

I believe in gender equality, racial equality, and the acceptance of homosexuality. But I see no reason why I should label myself and become part of a group. And just because I believe in those things and am an atheist, I should not have to be forced into joining their club.

Their biggest problem is the "with us or against us" attitude. If you are at a rally in support of same-sex marriage, you take what allies you can get. If the majority of Christians support it, then great! You'll probably get the law passed. But instead of unifying on single issues to get something done, the Atheism+ clique antagonizes others and isolates themselves, in the process becoming a fringe group with little influence, and turning public opinion even further against atheists due to their hostile attitudes.

They're shooting themselves in the feet.

If something can be destroyed by the truth, it might be worth destroying.

RE: Atheism +
You know, I came across the Atheism+ deal right as I was in the middle of my deconversion. I couldn't quite nail down what it was that turned me off so much about their tenets, as I agree with pretty much everything they are about.

It just came to me that they seem so much like the Westboro Baptist Church in how they conduct their business. Nuff said.

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

RE: Atheism +
I think it's very bad, it divides the community and I've seen it lead to many nasty arguments within a group.

Bury me with my guns on, so when I reach the other side - I can show him what it feels like to die.

This basically says it all.

More over I don't need the label, and I dislike the feminist idea that everything is the patriarchy.

I'm always weary of any idea that needs a conspiracy to get support.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for gender equality, but I take a more egalitarian view of it. Lets address the gender issues together, and reject the things that tear us apart or cause one sex/trans to hate the other. That being said I also reject the MRA's nonsense as well. I really think we should be working together not creating two hate groups.

Also the FTB/Atheism Plus's behavior has been very misguided in the past, and seems to be getting... Lets say more interesting with time.

The atheist is a man who destroys the imaginary things which afflict the human race, and so leads men back to nature, to experience and to reason.

RE: Atheism +
The basis of Atheism Plus is "Reason, as well as empathy." And that's the problem. Many online "atheists" don't care for either.

What these online atheists want is to talk about how dumb and/or evil the religious are for the simple reason it makes them feel better about themselves for being smarter, better people by comparison.

This is why these online atheists are so upset with Atheism Plus. The spot light has been turned onto the Atheist community to show why a portion of it wasn't doing a good enough job of encouraging diversity, and reason. Atheism Plus stopped making them feel good about themselves.

Unfortunately, this didn't prompt self reflection and a move in the right direction. Instead it triggered a sense of entitlement in their spoiled, petulant, childish minds.

There is no big bad bogey man revoking peoples "atheism card". There is no bogey man forcing scepticism, empathy, and reason. And there is no "pure atheism" that needs saving from said bogey man.

If people want their own marginalized, irrational group, the sky is the limit. Do and say what you want, feel better about yourselves . Just remember you'll be challenged if you take that extra step of hostility.

That doesn't bother me. Nor do I find any of their nominal positions inherently offensive, even when I don't agree.

It's the self righteousness and what amounts to authoritarian nationalism about it.

Wherever I agree with Atheism ++good, my reaction is "please get the hell off my side".

Nonsense is nonsense, but the history of nonsense is a very important science.
