Atheism in politics...does anyone believe they are all religious?
According to a 2014 Pew Research study, Non-Affiliated (22.8% of pop) people are represented by only 3% of US Senators, and that's only because the religious affiliations of three senators are listed as "Unaffiliated" probably by mistake. The only one of the three (Tammy Duckworth) who would be closest, but from what I can find, she's a deist, just not affiliated with any particular religion.

Do you think that many of these folks simply feign belief because they know that coming out of the religious closet is tantamount to throwing in the towel?

Personally, I think many of them are lying (go figure, right?) about their religion just to stay in a powerful position. Wouldn't be the first time.

I think Trump is lying about his religion. I don't think he believes in any god.

Curious as to the thoughts of others.

I don't think any of them are religious in the sense that Ray Comfort and Ken Ham are. They're probably more deist or agnostic or Pascal Wager. Not good, not bad. Just like most people aren't strict religious until/unless you and they have specific conversations.

I have no citation for this. I haven't done an actual study or research.

"Personally, I think many of them are lying (go figure, right?) about their religion just to stay in a powerful position. Wouldn't be the first time." I absolutely agree with that opinion.

"I think Trump is lying about his religion. I don't think he believes in any god." I absolutely disagree with that opinion. I think he is convinced that he IS a God. It's all part of his delusions.

Not sarcastically this time - no, it kinda is not. And while we do get it, it can get somewhat annoying when American members assume it goes without saying that they are talking about their own neck of the woods, as if the rest of the world doesn't even exist.

General observation, not aimed specifically at you.

Pence on the other hand, he is a disturbingly religious guy.

But even He had to say He went to church, be seen going to church, read His bible and other non-sense to even be considered electable, right?

I think a lot of them are simply ''cafeteria Christian''. Some are obviously religious fundamentalist, Mike Pence springs to mind and a few might be closet atheists.
