Quote:Today, young adults are actually more likely to know an atheist than an evangelical Christian. These personal connections play a crucial role in reducing negative feelings. A decline in stigma may also encourage more atheists to come out.

That would be good. I always felt as if the pendulum just has a chance, it would swing back around to normal. Shy

I honestly think there are way more Atheists than the poles indicate and that people let on themselves. I think most religious people who take their religion super seriously, would be very surprised by who they know is an atheist also. As Atheists, we crack on with life and don't worry about stuff like this. So if we all stood up together to say "all right Religion, calm down mate", I think we actually have a fairly large number Vs some religions.

Probably not, but that's my thought process.

Young people are gonna be hella pissed at their religious old folks for the mess they've been left to clear up.

Two of my fellow PTA members are atheists. We were talking about the books that come in for the book fair (we have no choice on what is sent) and one of them was very religious. Come to find out they were upset, too.

I would have never known unless this book came in. I think we are everywhere, quiet and unassuming. Like mold. lol

I guess it very much depends on your socialisation and the environment you grew up with.

I'm a child of the 60ies, and the year of '68 moved a lot of things in Europe with all the protests. When I started school in '69, religion was still very present. Today I can say, I never had any religious conversation. It just doesn't come up where I live. We never talk about what we believe or if we believe. Even Jehovah's witnesses stick to subway stations waving their watchtowers. If not approached they don't bother anyone.
