Yep. Everything seems consistent. Big Grin

Thanks for your support Robby Thumbsup

A man blames his bad childhood on leprechauns. He claims they don't exist, but yet still says without a doubt that they stole all his money and then killed his parents. That's why he became Leprechaun-Man

RE: Atheist equivalent of godparents
As religious as our family is we all have multiple god parents and its never been about church religion or God. Siblings are never god parents as I guess that overrides GP, its always been people in an age bracket similar to you that you would trust with your children.
Its regarded as an honor, sign of respect.
Don't know where this tradition come from ,maybe an Aussie thing, we specialise in the informal and carefree

Theism is to believe what other people claim, Atheism is to ask "why should I".

RE: Atheist equivalent of godparents
You can have secular godparents, as after reading most of the answers on this thread, some of those people who posted seem to participate in this.

It seems weird though, doesn't it? Secular godparents? That's the equivalent though, it doesn't always have to be tarnished by religion. We atheists need to secularize these terms by using them in ways that aren't traditionally used, therefore changing the meaning of the word, similar to how words like ''gay'' where changed.

Everyday is judgement day. Use your judgement, use reason.

doesn't seem weird even though I acknowledge it probably should, to me GOD in godparents, just means "to look out for", "watch over" .
I've never associated it with theism until this thread. I've only just found out that some (possibly most) people get sworn in as godparents in a church according to my Theist mate.

Theism is to believe what other people claim, Atheism is to ask "why should I".

My wife and I were asked to be godparents for my cousin's kid about two years ago. That's when I had to come out to them. So, my wife and one of their male friends are her godparents.

I have a godfamily, but I don't think there was ever any ceremony or anything, they are just close family friends. I call my godmother aunt.
