The % of actual atheists is still relatively low.

If the past 10,000 years are any indication people will always be looking for messiahs and gurus to follow blindly. Have you seen the growth of the membership of e.g. the 'Church of Scientology'? And a couple hundred other whacky denominations (a.k.a. sects, or cults)?
And that's just in the US. Worldwide Islam is growing fast. As is the Pentecost.
There is no indication at all that people, in general, are turning away from religion. Sure, some of us may define some of it as sports fanaticism, or political fanaticism, but that's just Newspeak for religion.

And another hurdle on the road to atheism are the numbers. Atheism grows in affluent, educated societies. Childbirth rates drop – dramatically – in affluent, educated societies.
In French: religious people fuck like rabbits.

While true, what it means for atheism is that if atheism is growing so does the power that comes with popularity in a democratic republic (to please Logica).
