Atheists for Bernie Sanders
I'm surprised there isn't a thread for this already. I see some people attacking Bernie Sanders on here but I can't believe that a majority of Atheists would be that ignorant. I know Seth is conservative and being liberal does not go hand in hand with Atheism of course, but still I think a majority of Atheists are also free-thinkers and liberal.

Anyway I am a member of Atheists for Bernie on Facebook and thought I'd make mention of it here too. Even if you do lean a bit on the wrong (opposite of left, liberal) side you still may want to take a serious look at voting for Bernie Sanders. He may not totally represent your views, but he is perhaps the only secular candidate that has any serious chance of becoming President. Now technically he is considered Jewish simply because if you are born Jewish then you are considered Jewish regardless of if you actually believe in the Jewish religion or not. Bernie falls into the category of "Secular Jew" though, which would be much like someone in the US that uses the term "Christian" but doesn't read the bible, go to church, pray, or want religion to dominate. Frankly I can't blame Bernie for going ahead and wearing the Jewish title any more that I could blame people for wearing the title "Christian" in order to avoid being attacked and disowned for not accepting those titles. Lets be honest, would someone that actually wears the title of Atheist actually have a chance of winning the highest office in the USA? Certainly not in this decade, maybe in fifty years.

Anyway this is just my 2nd post ever on this site and maybe a chance to get some conversation going with fellow Atheists.

I don't think Bernie Sanders stands a chance of winning, but since no one else seems to be willing to actually address the problem of corporate lobbying in our government, I'm likely to vote for him out of principle. Whether or not he's religious is irrelevant, IMO.

If we came from dust, then why is there still dust?

RE: Atheists for Bernie Sanders
I wish there were more candidates running against Hillary. I don't mind Sanders' ideas, but I don't think he is strong enough to be the Democratic party candidate.

Neither party has a credible economic strategy, and both parties will be beholden to big money, so I vote based on the social policies endorsed by each platform…and I'm female. So I kind of have to vote for the Democratic party, and I want a candidate who is stronger than Sanders and less tarnished ethically than Clinton. Doesn't look like I'm going to get my preference, though.

He beat out a dozen other candidates to come neck and neck with Clinton. I actually worry far more if Hillary wins the nomination. She is beatable by Jeb Bush; Sanders would be a nightmare opponent for the GOP.

Sanders is not "neck and neck" with Clinton. They were neck and neck in the state of New Hampshire.

Just one month ago I said the same thing. I liked him but I didn't think a non-christian liberal with socialist tendencies would stand a chance is such a christian dominated and extremely conservative country. Things have really changed in the past 3 weeks though and the movement for Bernie has gotten huge! The most recent polls have actually picked him as the most likely to win the presidency over all. I've never been part of a campaign before but I am a volunteer for campaigning for Bernie and may even become a local delegate.

Well, there is this one to start, but it isn't the only one. There are a lot of different ways to look at the polls of course but this is putting the one leading the republican side vs Clinton and Sanders. I can probably find one with Sanders vs Clinton that will have them pretty much even if you need it.

I checked you are right. I was going off the Q rating that I saw last (Sanders is way up in that) the rest of that statement is true. Sanders has more or less eliminated the rest of the Democratic field outside Clinton.
