RE: Solar Eclipse 2017
The eclipse was the coolest damned thing!!!!

We went over to the Oregon coast to stay in a beach house and then drove inland for a half an hour because of the coastal fog. The sky was as clear as a bell. It was amazing! I'm so glad I did this and saw 100% complete totality instead of like 90%

The birds got quiet, the temperature dropped about 10 degrees and the shadows of street lamps and poles were fuzzy on one side, then as the moon moved to the other side of the sun the shadows were fuzzy on the other side of the street lamps. It was very dark for almost two minutes and we took our protective glasses off for a short while. It was beautiful.

We're back at the beach house and will return home this Wednesday. Airport kid is over in Corvalis Oregon. I hope he posts some photos. My phone camera couldn't do the eclipse justice.

RE: August Eclipse
I went old school with a paper plate with a nail hole in it. Same thing I did back in '70.

My work was going to have an event where everyone went outside and watched the eclipse and they bought a bunch of them eclipse glasses for us. Safety officer said they weren't up to code. .... bwahahaha

#sigh

It was awesome here 98-99 percent was good enough for me.

We got some great pictures too. It got quite dark enough to see stars. When we hit near totality, there was weird shimmering against the house that looked like water.

Very fucking cool!!!!

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

I couldn't find anything on the internet about the fuzzy shadow cast on one edge of an object by the eclipse. But my husband, who's a pretty smart cookie, figured that it must be from the crescent shaped sun. He figured it would casting a shadow fuzzy on one side of an object because there was almost two points of lights coming from the crescent shape.

As the moon worked it's way onto the other side of the sun the fuzzy side of the shadow was flipped to the opposite side of objects.

Anyone?

Can anyone give a better explanation? I took a photos of it but it didn't turn out very well.

600 mile drive to Columbia, MO in the center of the path. Weather forecast "possible thunderstorms." Turned out to be overcast. A few minutes before totality the street lights came on. Then the crickets started chirping. TOTALITY! The corona was magnificent.
