Baby remains found at former Church-run home for unmarried mothers
I don't even know what to say to this.

Reuters

Quote:DUBLIN (Reuters) - The remains of babies, ranging from new-born to three-years-old, have been found in the sewers of a former Church-run home for unmarried mothers in Ireland, the government said on Friday.

A report from an inquiry the government ordered in 2014 backed up a historian's claim that up to 800 children may lie in an unmarked grave at the home. It said: "significant quantities of human remains have been discovered in at least 17 of the 20 underground chambers which were examined".

But, wait, it gets better...

Quote:Government records show that in the 1930s, 40s and 50s, the mortality rate for "illegitimate" children was often more than five times that of those born to married parents. On average, more than one in four children born out of wedlock died.

The "good" sisters also refuse to open their adoption records, for any reason. So birth mothers and adoptees cannot get any information. No medical history. No word of an adopted child's fate. No chance of reconnection. No chance of answered questions. Even in cases where they knew that both mother and child were searching for one another.

And this is all after they used the pregnant and nursing mothers as essentially slave labor. Inmates at their facilities where forced to work, unpaid, doing menial labor in harsh conditions, while pregnant or recovering.

But, remember folks, atheists are evil.

These facilities must have been pure hell on earth for everyone going there. Ireland has been a near theocracy until pretty recently. So it probably was pretty easy to brush something like that under the rug. Easier than in most other places.

But as the child abuse scandal blew some years ago, it reveiled that many of these so called christian homes have been an abyss of abuse. Up until the late 70ies at the very least. In most countries where they got access to children the state looked the other way whenever something was rumored.

Sadly, this isn't anything new.

In Nova Scotia, Canada, devout Christians (SDAs) William and Lila Young operated a similar place called The Ideal Maternity Home in the 1920s to 1940s, charging upwards of $10,000 per adoption, an astronomical amount at that time. Babies that were considered unadoptable for whatever reason were often left to die and buried in wooden butter boxes provided by the local dairy.

The "butterbox babies" story has long been a heartbreaking part of Canadian, and specifically Maritime, culture.

It was going on for years and most people knew or suspected something was going on. All credit must go to historian Catherine Corless who first revealed the story about the Tuam babies years ago. No doubt the fucking catholic church will have special prayers said at mass next Sunday for all those poor kids ..... I hate the bastards.

People are awful. People who do shit in the name of their god are even more awful.

It seems that the story about the baby remains found at the church run home is "fake news". Well that's according to US based conservative Bill Donoghue in his article on the Catholic League web-site. FFS Angry

Yabbut, the findings don't mention the specific words 'mass grave', it just mentions 'a significant number of human remains in a septic tank'. A septic tank, not a mass grave. Clearly invalidates the whole story rendering it completely fake. Dodgy

Sad This is awful.
Punishment for having sex. ugh.

I wonder if Ireland will ever legalize abortion.

The Pro Life movement have massive support over here. It would be a brave politician/political party who would try to push legislation through to allow abortions in Ireland.
