I see nothing of value in Alla "contributions".

I wonder if I can change your opinion. Consider

It's been a while since a gave an analysis of Alla's behaviour and back then I observed that she had two (at least) writing styles / levels of eloquence and that she was ... what shall we call it? ... an inverse cock pimple.

She was (they were), I thought, a natural conservative made belligerent by experiences of Soviet style collectivism. And this was very personal and raw. Not a great thinker but starting to think. Not someone with the perspective of a student of socio-political-economics who had read and understood history (i.e. not Szuchow) but a victim of it.

Now here's the curious thing... Soviet-style socialism failed and is no more and from the ashes we have an emerging Russia heading towards theocratic fascism.

Some data points:
Clamping down on evangelism or more specifically getting pissy with anything other than the Russian Orthodox Church

Is it church leading state or state leading church in this unholy alliance?

And how do the plebs react?
What was "partiinost" (the party line) has self-replicated to become submission (and we all know that translation of "Islam") ... See the nice lady at 4:13 to 4:37 and from 4:50 to 5:00 note the "new laws that threaten imprisonment for insulting the feelings of religious believers or for standing up for homosexual rights"

Pence's Murika is showing all the same signs and it's looking ever more likely that there will be a clash of cultures (western christianity vs. eastern christianity with Islam being used as a pawn) heading our way and we're in a warm-up phase right now.

Anyway, Alla's opinions are an expression of the embodiment of east meets west ... like a child, naive and seeking security, caught between parents of a hostile divorce fighting of custody of her mind ... almost every utterance is an microcosmic insight into humanity's attempt to comprehend it's tiny place in a crazy, fucked up and uncontrollable universe ... a feeble but noble attempt to grasp and salvage some fragile order from incomprehensible chaos.

Or something like that. Unsure

This is, I think, what Girly finds so fascinating.

To be honest she remind me of idiocy of polish debate where word I believe sometimes (often?) seems to play key role - facts doesn't matter, experts opinions too, but belief is way to go.

For dog sake - University I attended was allegedly* top rated in Poland even if only in history area, and students there had gall to say that The Battle of Warsaw (1920) was won thanks to intervention of Mary the Virgin, cause it was called Miracle of the Vistula. This is the vibe that I get from Alla.

Also thanks for compliment.

*According to one of my professors. I kinda doubt it but even if that was the case being best in Poland does not mean much.

Could have edited previous post but this merit another answer I think:

One could say that socialism failed as soon as it took capitalism for it benchmark, like Stalin wanting to industrialize, or Khrushchev who wanted to catch up and then outdo America. At least such was opinion of late Zygmunt Bauman.

There is also issue of theocratic fascism - I would say that USSR was a theocracy which changed into ordinary authoritarian state after Khrushchev was ousted and Brezhnev started talking about actually existing socialism. No longer the state energy was directed into achieving utopia, which even Stalin did not want to achieve soon. Going by Andrzej Walicki book From the Communist Project to the Neoliberal Utopia I would say that it was one of causes of USSR falling, delegitimization - till the ideology was strong country could survive, when it became only ritual phrase uttered at May 1 collapse was unavoidable.

There is good book about direction that modern Russia take: Putin's Wars: The Rise of Russia's New Imperialism by Marcel H. Van Herpen.

Taking history into account I would say that it would be tsar that will emege victorious.

To be fair it is nothing surprising as taking a stand about something deemed wrong takes a real courage and consequences could be dire indeed. About new laws - it is why some right wingers in Poland have hard on on Putin, despite him being Russian and former KGB spook. Idiots are happy that he stand against "political correctness" and "west corrupting influence" apparently not being aware that other authoritarian measures could follow.

But majority of Poles are descendants of serfs* and to this day what sociologist call "farm (grange) mentality" exists. Homeliness is highly prized and superstitious society likes not "blasphemers".

*Last vestiges of serfdom disappeared in thirties of XX century.

Borg publically admitted to being a Poe on AF several months ago. He's just a complete time waster.

I don't think Alla is a troll, personally. I think she's genuine. I've been impressed with some of the conversations we've had, and she's conceded some points that theists are often loathe to do. Of course I find a lot of what any theist says to be crazy talk, but I don't sense deliberate dishonesty.

I've only known her a short time, of course.

I have a website here which discusses the issues and terminology surrounding religion and atheism. It's hopefully user friendly to all.

You think he's competent enough to know if he was one or not?

I guess he had a moment of clarity. I wouldn't be so sure now.

He obviously thinks he's clever, a walking Dunning Kruger effect.

We also had someone even worse, ProgrammingGodJordan who I heavily suspect was a Poe but may have been just a complete idiot. He got banned in the end I think, did he grace you with his presence? He thought he was smart because he formatted all his posts in the same way like a computer program.

Grose. Formatting for readability is a professional courtesy. Fetishizing it is just fucking weird. Dodgy

Yeah PGJ came on here as well. I think he lasted longer on here actually. Or was it the other way round?

Lovely. We had to put up with him for a few months before he finally got dragged to the waste basket. Probably the most arrogant person I've ever met, and I've met some real corkers.

If you search for him in the 'member list' you can see what happened. He made a total of 10 posts in one day and was banned. He was spamming the AtheistForums.org site at the same time. Funny thing is that his last visit shows up as Feb 17 so he must have tried to get back on here.
