But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

RE: Bass?
I do, have for a looooong time. Played bass in a Hendrix cover band, and my last paying gig, bass in a SRV-style blues band. Also played bass on most of my demos, some of which are on my Soundcloud.

I'm no great shakes, but I can make it groove and will not lose The One.

I don't currently own a bass, but will get a five-string before the year's out.

RE: Bass?

5 string slap-bass represent! Big Grin

Or how about a 12-string left-handed bass played by the vocalist! Blink

There have been so many geniuses on each instrument, one cannot choose a favorite. A long time hero of mine is Charles Mingus. Not only for his playing and composition, but for everything else, including his touch, feel, choice of musicians etc. Danny Richmond, his long time drummer, being a case in point.

The one, the only, Mr Charles Mingus.

Sometimes, I'll hear songs and wonder how they play so fast. I haven't been playing very long though. I assume I'll get faster with more practice? I think I'm better than I was when I started.

I really enjoy playing so I'm not too worried about speed. ^^

I play bass, a Fender Precision. I bought it new about 30 years ago and it's still going strong.

On any instrument, practice is critical. If you've got access to private lessons where you are, I'd take 'em. If you don't, get to your local junior college and take a guitar or piano class -- you will learn a little about music and that will broaden your playing.

Now, for some more great bass playing. Just to note, it doesn't have to be fast ... but it does have to be timely and tasty.
