RE: Bemores annual moan about Christmas....
Well, there will be gifts exchanged here. They are far from extravagant. What I am looking forward to is making dinner for my family, having them here (except for the ones in SC who I will miss terribly), talking, joking, taking pictures, and enjoying being together and all of us having a few days off from work.

Tomorrow my son will celebrate Christmas with his girlfriend and her daughter in his first house. He worked hard for that.

In the morning my husband and I will go to my older daughter's house to spend time with her, my oldest granddaughter, my son-in-law, and his mother. We will drink Mimosas and have brunch together.

Not all people go for the biggest, baddest, bestest Christmas they can put on credit to pay off for the next few years.

I don't begrudge anyone their choice of how they celebrate.

But I also don't think everyone does the same thing. Not everyone stresses and spends too much. Some of us do enjoy getting to spend time with family and Christmas just happens to allow most of us time off from work to do so.

Christmas every month - no - but we still get together about once a month, all of us. It may be for a birthday or another holiday but those dates are points in time to shove other things aide and be together, often because we have a break in work.

Bemore, I hope you have a happy holiday, whether you like it or not. Heart

See here they are the bruises some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF

RE: Bemores annual moan about Christmas....
I just spent the day yesterday baking with my daughter and grandsons (8, 5 & 2). We made 4 different kinds of cookies (cherry macaroons, no bake cookies, sugar cookies and red/green M&M's bars) that will be my grandsons gifts to everyone. We do this every year.

Another thing I do with the boys is take them shopping for a "toys for tots gift" because I think volunteering and love for doing community service starts at an early age and it's something I want them to be a participant in when they grow up. No gods required to give help to others.

It's a bit hard for them to understand "pick out a child's gift I really like and then give it away" when they're little but it's a good lesson just the same. I do a few presents for the kids but our holiday focus is really about food and family game time. We take this very seriously and plan ahead. I think we balance it very well.

I also buy them a book with every gifting event, so as not to just give toys but ideas. I did this with my kids as well. By the time they were grown they had the start of a nice little library. Smile

It can be about gross commercialism but it doesn't have to be. I pretty much ignore those kinds of people that revel in that kind of holiday.

This always struck me that it was not unexpected that one would be an asshole the rest of the year. Huh

That you could be less of a caring, charitable individual the rest of the time and Jeebus would still love you as long as you buckled up and faked it for a few days.

This Jeebus guy either has extremely low standards or is easily fooled. Consider

“I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s.”~Mark Twain
“Ocean: A body of water occupying about two-thirds of a world made for man - who has no gills.”~ Ambrose Bierce

I've seen the Grammar Nazi cat and wondered about the spelling one (not enough to search, though). That's cool!
