Correct. I can't actually recall anybody saying "God bless you" whenever I've sneezed. Strictly speaking, gesundheit in German just means "health".

Apparently "God bless you" reflects the old superstition that a sneeze can cause the soul to fly out of the body, and saying the phrase prevents this from happening LOL.

I'm a creationist... I believe that man created God.

RE: Bless you!
Back when my sisters still lived at home, they would purposely sneeze really loud.
Haaaaayyyyyyychoooooooo.
From somewhere else in the house, remotely, we'd hear a "Hate chooo too".

So when people sneeze, that's what I say.

As far as "bless you" .... it's like "have a nice day".
Ya gotta pick your battles ... and sneezes ain't one of mine.

Insufferable know-it-all.Einstein God has a plan for us. Please stop screwing it up with your prayers.

RE: Bless you!
It's cultural. I'm not going to have my feelings hurt from someone try to be nice.

People say different things in different country's.
Penn Gillette has said he says "Well that's silly."
Seinfeld had a whole episode on it. They decided to say "You're soooo good looking."

It's a free country say what ever the fuck you want.

If I recall right the tradition started around the dark ages. When it was thought that sneezing meant your soul was trying to escape your body.

As far as the pledge allegiance goes. That too is your decision no one is going to put a gun to your head if you decide not to say it. Maybe looks but not a gun. I would like to have the allegiance go back to the original 1855. Short. Simple. No god.

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

or in the very least the 1923 version.

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

God was added at the same time they added god on the money 1954. Due to desire to separate this country from the Commies.

The founders probably wouldn't want anyone pledging allegiance to anything. The whole purpose of starting the republic was so individuals wouldn't have to bow down to one ruler.

My mother turned gesundheit into "kasnoozerbugs". I donno, she always said kasnoozerbugs when any of us kids sneezed. I thought it was funny so I say it to my kids, my husband and anyone else.

On a side note, my husband has the lowest sneeze west of the Mississippi and maybe east of it too. When he sneezes sometimes I say, "Well, there's another dead person that just woke up"...it's that loud. If I'm not expecting him to sneeze I'll do a startled half scream-gasp thingy. Our cat has jumped across the room from a sound sleep at the sound of his sneeze. I keep thinking he should enter it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the loudest sneeze in the entire goddamn world. Laugh out load

Consider I wonder if he could somehow make some money from having such a loud sneeze.

Probably not. Undecided

Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.... on Donald J. Trump:

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

I stand corrected.

The mistake came when I was looking for the proper year.

It was created by of all things A Socialist Minister Francis Bellamy born in 1855.

I give tours at a local historic site and the pledge is part of the display in the 1890's schoolhouse on the property so I get to go over the history often. It's kind of fun being able to point out that we had no pledge at all from 1776 to 1892 and had no 'under god' in it until 1954. That it was written by a preacher who managed to keep church and state separate is just icing on the cake.

The Bellamy salute is also a fun fact to hit visitors with.

We say "hachooshies" and "gazoonies" in my household.

Just kidding
Or am I?

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.
