Boat People
No - not those guys trying to get to Miami on an air mattress........

How many boaters here?

I've owned several "holes in the water, in which to pour money in" over the years -- and I'm going to look at a 25 ft Macgregor sailboat early next week.

My SO works in at one of the local marinas - and a slip (with power) and winter storage are one of the perks of working there.

This would put me on Lake Michigan anytime I want to ride the motorcycle to her place of employment.

Added bonus -- we can sleep on the boat a night or two a week and save her a couple hours of commuting.... (40 minutes one way, average)

My friend has a 35 or 40 footer sailboat that he's restored...yeah throw lots of money into it.

Boating things have lots of weird terms..bow, stern, aft, port...

Why do they call driving the boat, piloting?

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

Because cars took dibs on "driving"????

Yup.... "The Head" -- many a sailor's favorite.

....

Of course aircraft borrowed much of the terminology, and stylizing of ships. Much transferred -- including navigational lighting, relative directions, and structural terminology such as "overhead" instead of ceiling, "bulkhead" instead of wall and "deck" instead of floor...

In fact - some early aircraft had damned near a "ship's wheel" for the yoke ---

There I go learning new stuff...

Who knows what semi important detail was just shoved out to hold this.

Hopefully not the names or birthdates of immediate family.....

I hate it when that happens...

RE: Boat People
I have canoes, kayaks, a coracle, a small inflatable dinghy and a 13 foot motor boat. Yes, I know this is small as well!
Very much the cheap end of boating.

What do you mean Life is short. It's the longest thing you're going to do.
