Book/Article Recommends
Hey guys!

So I know there's a dedicated thread for books and such, but I would like to get some input from you all.

Since becoming an atheist, I've started reading pretty much anything I can find on the subject. Most of it centers around the four horsemen (Hitch, Rich, Sam, and Dan) but I'm wanting to see if there's anything anyone else has read that they would recommend to an atheist who is basically a sponge for information. I don't care if it's an article, book, film, etc. Doesn't necessarily have to be atheistic in nature. I would also like to read the other side of the argument, be it Christian, Jewish, Islamic, etc. so that I may better know the total argument and prepare for the people who will no doubt call me out on things as I get more proactive in my non-belief.

Also, I am a screenwriter, seeking my master's degree. Whatever you may think about learning how to be a screenwriter, it's something I'm really into. I actually get a lot more guff from the world for studying a creative art than I do for being an atheist. Go figure.

Be that as it may, I have to adapt something for a class into a feature film script. So, in that respect, what have you read (again, be it an article, book, short story....whatever) that you would like to see made into a film? I went to a bookstore the other day to try and find something to adapt but that's an expansive proposition. I don't much care for fantastical stories, which are most of the books my friends tell me to adapt, but if it's a story that I think I can write, I'll give it a good look.

So, let it rip. What should I be reading, and also what should I adapt?

There is a list of references here but I am not savvy enough to get you to it...someone here surely will.

I read Seth's book last night and this morning and really enjoyed it...it's brand new so I doubt it's on the list yet.

Ya, I am holding out for the paperback. I am young, but I'm old-fashioned in that I like my books to be in paper form.

I have been through many a thread on here about these kinds of things...just going for more of the individual approach. Which is to say, what books have YOU read that you would recommend, for instance?

Actually did get my paperback from the TTA website, I pre-ordered it when it was first offered and got it yesterday.

"God: The Failed Hypothesis" by Victor J. Stenger is really good. A lot of sciency, quantum physics talk, but it presents many valid arguments against the existence of an intelligent force behind the Universe.

Willard and His Bowling Trophies by Richard Brautigan. Weird but short book that is darkly humorous.

Under Repair.

I've found the books by Pen Jillette to be not only imformative but very amusing to read. Here are some links to his titles:

GOD NO! Signs You May Already Be an Atheist and Other Magical Tales - http://www.amazon.com/God-No-Already-Ath...pd_sim_b_1

Every Day is an Atheist Holiday! - http://www.amazon.com/Every-Day-Atheist-...gy_b_img_y

I'm currently reading this one:

Outspoken: Confessions of a Devout Atheist - https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/270299

I would also recommend this one by Carl Sagan:

The Demon-Haunted World: Science As A Candle In The Dark - http://www.amazon.com/Demon-Haunted-Worl...nted+world

Hope that helps!

We, as a community, have collected pieces of information from books to apps on atheism, religion, and science in one forum thread.

We are constantly looking for more additions if you guys stumble upon other articles, books, posts, and blogs atheist or science or religion centered.

Here is the link for the thread, and tell us what you think.
